Right Turn Signal Activates Left Turn Signal on a Trailer Towed by a 2008 Chrysler Town and Country

Question:

2008 Chrysler Town and country Both work fine on the vehicle, however, when I turn on the right turn signal the trailer left turn signal comes on. But when I turn on the left turn signal it also comes on the left side of trailer as it should. I verified the connector on the vehicle and both turn signals are coming to the yellow wire. There is no current on the green wire on the connector when I turn on the right turn signal. Any suggestions? Or do I just need a new wiring kit?

Both turn signals from the trailer go to the yellow wire? If this is the case then you have identified the problem. Something is mis-wired and we need to correct the issue.

On the vehicle side the green wire that plugs in line with the taillight wiring is the right turn signal and brake light. If you test the 4-Way with a circuit tester like # PTW2993 if needed, the pin at the green wire should have right turn and brake functions. If it does not, then test the wires leading into the converter. If the green wire has the correct signal going in but the wrong one coming out, then the converter will need to be replaced. If the green wire going into the converter is not correct but it is installed in the right place on the vehicle, then there is an issue with the vehicle wiring that needs to be fixed.

If everything on the vehicle checks out fine then that indicates a problem with the trailer wiring. On the trailer side 4-Way, the one covered pin is the ground. Next to that is the running light pin. Then there is the left turn signal/brake light pin. The last pin is the right turn/brake light. Make sure that the wires that are attached to these pins go to the right places.

basically the right tail light goes to the pin furthest from the covered ground pin. You will also want to make sure that all of the grounds on the trailer as well as the converter on the vehicle are attached to clean and corrosion free bare metal surfaces. I have included some links that should help you.
