Troubleshooting No Brake Lights on Vehicle Side of Wiring Harness for Possible Converter Failure
Question:
Everything else works on the trailer, but the hazards and brake lights. I when I test the vehicle side trailer wire for the brakes there is no power. I guess I need a new converter? No fuses are blown

To determine if your converter is bad on your wiring harness you can do a couple of quick tests using a circuit tester like # PTW2993. Test the brake wires for each side coming out of the converter when the brake pedal is pressed. If you get no function then test the wires going into the converter. If you have power going in and not coming out, then it is definitely the converter and it will need replaced. If you don't have power even reaching the converter then test the harness where it connects to the factory wiring. If you have power in that location, then the wiring leading to the converter is bad and you can either replace just those wires or replace the entire unit.
If on the top of this page you insert your vehicle year/make/model you will get the custom fit options for your vehicle. We honestly get more bad converters from Curt than from Tekonsha, so I recommend switching brands if you have the Curt # C56329 you asked from.
