Lamps of Trailer Pulled By 2016 Ford Escape Stay Illuminated With Vehicle and Lights Off
Question:
I purchased your trailer wiring harness for my 2016 Ford Escape. It does not have the factory installed trailer wiring. My nephew installed it and dont want to bother him with the problem. The light stays on even when the car is not running or the lights are turned off. Can you tell me what to check in order to fix it?

The most likely reason for the trailer wiring harness to put out voltage with the vehicle shut off is a shorted converter box which is caused by a short circuit in the trailer wiring.
You can confirm this by removing the 10A fuse in the yellow fuse holder that should be connected to the vehicle's positive battery terminal. If removing the fuse causes that light that remains on to shut off, it confirms that the converter box has a short circuit in it. You'll need to identify the short in the trailer wiring by tracing the lighting cirucits back from the trailer connector to each lamp. You'll want to look for pinched wires or wires with worn or cracked insulation. Anything that would let the copper inside the wires to short out on the trailer frame. Once the short is located and repaired, you'll need to replace the # C56329 wiring harness.

I had just rewired the trailer and there is no dead shorts, or bare wires. Why didn't the fuse in light kit blow before it would of shorted out the converter box? I'm not going to purchase another kit if it is not made to more or less protect it's self from shorts.
