When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs and momentum pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle. With surge brake systems, the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward while the tow vehicle slows. The actuator telescopes, applying force to its master cylinder, which in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the trailer's brakes.

Video Transcript for Titan Brake Actuator - Surge Brake Actuator - T4750700 Review

Today we'll be reviewing part number C4750700, this is the Titan zinc plated brake actuator with the built in drop. It's going to provide a 3" drop, measuring from this point here to the base of the bottom of the coupler. It's also designed to work with disc brakes, and it's going to fit a 2 5/16" hitch ball. This is a bolt on design, you can see the different bolt holes down at this portion here. We do have a couple different sizes of bolt holes to go over. That whole mounting plate is going to give us a measurement of about 8 1/4", so 8 1/4". These three holes are going to be the same, same patterns on the other side.

Those holes are going to give us a diameter of a 1/2". These two holes are a little bit larger, they're going to give us a diameter of 5/8". The distance between these two holes, center on center, is going to be 1". Then the overall length of this entire system is going to measure right around 33". This hydraulic actuator is going to synchronize the trailer brakes with the tow vehicle brakes. When you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle deceleration occurs and momentum actually pushes your trailer toward the rear of your vehicle.

With the surge brake system the actuator is triggered as your trailer moves forward and while the tow vehicle is slowing. What this item does is that the actuator actually telescopes, which is going to apply force to the master cylinder here at the rear. Which in turn is going to apply the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage the brakes on your trailer. Up here at this portion here this has a built-in unique roller design that's going to reduce resistance during telescoping. That way it's going to create a straight line movement. The system is made from a sturdy durable steel construction, so it is going to resist bending, in jack-knife situations.

Up here at the front we have a standard heavy duty ball coupler with a built in drop. Again, it's going to be a 3" built-in drop. It has an easy to use latch system, it also has the cut-out hole that way you can install a coupler pin, or a coupler lock, those are sold separately at etrailer.com. To engage or disconnect from the hitch ball, you just lift up on that little eyelet there and move it to an up position that's going to open it up, allow you to connect or disengage. Then to get it back down, place it back down making sure this little level goes into the appropriate slot. Very easy to use. This does also include the break-away kit, which is this portion here.

The way that this system works is the other end of the chain connects to your vehicle. If your trailer and vehicle we're to disconnect this would pull the lever tight bringing it back and what that does is it's going to engage the brakes on your trailer, bringing the trailer to an eventual stop. That's a great feature to have. This does have a nice zinc plated finish on it so it is going to provide ultimate resistance against corrosion. Again, it is that bolt on install. It's is designed to work with disc brakes. Again, the ball is a 2 5/16" hitch ball, 3" drop. Down here for our mounting, this is designed to fit channel widths that measure 3", so we have 3" in between our channel there. It's going to offer us a gross weight capacity of 20,000 pounds with a max tongue weight of 2,000 pounds. Here at the back I'm going to give you a peek at the master cylinder we have back here. This portion here is our master cylinder, we do have a connection point here to connect the brake lines of the trailer. Right here at top, I have that loosely installed so I can quickly disconnect it. All you got to do is unscrew this lid and it's a simple twist-off application. This is your brake fluid reservoir, right there on the lid it says use only DOT type 3 brake fluid. That's always going to be a reminder. You can see right in there, that's the reservoir for the brake fluid. It simply just threads back into place. Then the cap goes back on just to keep anything from getting into that reservoir around that master cylinder. That's going to do it for today's review of part number T4750700. This is the Titan zinc plated brake actuator with the built in drop at the coupler. .

  • Replacement Inner Slide for Titan Model 20 Surge Brake Actuator
Currently there is no replacement inner slides for your Titan Brake Actuator # T4750700 besides the 2-5/16" that you currently have. We do have Titan Adjustable-Channel Brake Actuator # T4821300 that has an adjustable channel and includes the lunette ring. It is the same 20,000lb brake that fits the 3" frame.

  • What Do the Wires of a The Titan Actuator T4750700 Run To
The two wires you mentioned are for the reverse lock out solenoid wiring. What you need to do is ground one of them (doesn't matter which), and then run the other to a reverse light circuit and that way the actuator won't activate when you are in reverse and let you back the trailer up. We happen to have a video on the proper procedure for bleeding trailer brakes. I have attached the video below as well as outline the method here for you. First top off the master cylinder with appropriate...

  • Titan Model 20 Drum Brake Actuator and Electric Lockout Recommendation
We have what you need, but we don't have the exact part number you listed as it has been discontinued. You would want the part # T1521000 as it is a Titan Model 20 actuator and then for an electric lock out you would also need the # T4748800.

  • Replacement Options for Titan Model 20 Brake Actuator for Disc Brakes
You can replace your old Titan Model 20 with the current version of this brake actuator. If you do not need an electric lockout the correct replacement is the # T4750700. If you need an electric lockout, or would like to add it while you're redoing the trailer, then you can use the # T4750720. If you are adding electric lockout you will also need to add a 5-way to the trailer like the # HM47900 as well as the Curt Adapter # C57187 on your vehicle.

  • Is Lockout Solenoid Included With Titan Brake Actuator Coupler # T4750700
The Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator, part # T4750700 you referenced does not have a solenoid included. There are three types of systems you can choose from. Either a system like part # T4750700 that has no solenoid, a coupler with manual lockout, or brake couplers with an electric solenoid lockout. If you are wanting a brake coupler with an electric lockout I recommend the Titan Zinc-Plated Brake Actuator w/ Drop Electric Lockout, part # T4750720. This has the same features as the coupler...
