A Solution for Rough Rides

Have you ever hit a bump while towing and had that road shock jostle and shake you all the way down to your bones? It's a common feeling. Most couplers are made completely of metal, so there's nothing to help soften the shock when you hit a bump. This results in a bumpy, jerky ride that not only takes a toll on you as you drive, but it beats up your equipment too, leading to premature wear and tear on both your truck and trailer.

Fortunately, the Shocker Hitch Air coupler will change all of that.

Air Bag and Bumper Stop Shock Absorption Technology

Shocker Hitch Gooseneck Coupler

Using a built-in air bag and rubber cushions, the Shocker Hitch acts like a small suspension system between your truck and trailer. The air bag and bumpers help absorb road shock, creating a smoother, more comfortable ride while also protecting your truck and trailer from unnecessary wear and tear on the brakes, chassis, trailer frame, and suspensions.

Shocker Hitch Gooseneck Air Bag

The body of the Shocker Hitch Air coupler is designed to pivot back and forth on the pivot bolt, kind of like a teeter totter, as the air bag and the cushioned bumpers take turns absorbing the road shock. When you hit a bump and your trailer bounces, the unit pivots so that the air bag can isolate and absorb the energy. When your trailer jerks forward or backward, the 2 cushioned bumper stops help soften the force.

Customize Amount of Shock Absorption

Shocker Hitch Gooseneck Coupler

Using the easily accessible air valve on the top of the unit, you can adjust the air pressure in this Shocker Hitch coupler's air bag to best accommodate your trailer's load. If you're hauling heavy-duty landscaping equipment, for example, you can add air to account for the increased capacity. Once the equipment is unloaded, simply release some air so that your underloaded trailer won't experience a stiff ride.

Video Transcript for Customer Review - Shocker Trailer Tongue Air Coupler

Hello, neighbors. It's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're at Ozark International Raceway. And I'm here with Olie who's racing in the spec Corvette class. And we saw his trailer here. He's actually got the Shocker hitch.

And we've seen these kind of come through etrailer. But to actually talk to someone that's used it long term, it's kind of nice to have. And he's actually come from California. So, let's hear what he has to say about it. Yeah.

Thank you. So, I had a trailer prior to this one. This is a 24 foot stacker trailer. Weighs about 20,000 pounds, three axles. The previous trailer that I had was a single car trailer, and a 20 foot box.

And I tended to overload the trailer when I started racing. I have a pickup truck, an F-450. But the real culprit that got me into this is the F-750 chassis RV that I have. And it's got like a 36,000 pound rear axle gross vehicle weight or something incredible like that. So it's just, it's rock hard.

It's unforgiving. Oh, and it's also about 14 feet from the axle to the hitch, right So, it's a long lever arm. And in California, in some places like going up I5 to Buttonwillow, it's about 180, 190 miles to get there. A full two thirds of it, the part of the highway is just wap, wap, wap, wap. And one day I'm driving along, just exiting in Los Angeles to where I'm thinking I'm home free to just be able to get to the track. And somebody's honking. They're pointing back in the trailer, and I look back. The trailer's still there, but I'm thinking, ah, it looks kinda low. And so I pull over, and the trailer had actually fractured. This is a V nose, but the other one was a square nose. It actually fractured at the 90 degree angle on both sides. And this side was only on by just the top portion of the fold. And the other side had a couple inches. So I was close to losing the trailer, right I noticed on my next trips, on the same route when I would get the Buttonwillow, sometimes the stuff in the front cabinets in my trailer was just all out on the floor. You know, it'd be wap, wap, wap, then hit the crappy potholes, and stuff would just start flying all over the place. And I'd have to put it, you know, pick it up off the floor and put it away. I put the Shocker hitch on and that all ended with that. So when I had this trailer built a couple years ago, I thought I'm gonna do the Shocker hitch. And as I shared with you guys earlier, on the first trip to Laguna Seca, about a seven hour drive, when we're leaving, I stop and get a Big Gulp drink, go inside the trailer. I drank, drank about a third of it. So two thirds was left. I set it down on the counter and forgot about it. And I drove about six and a half hours home. I couldn't believe it. When I got home, I walked in, and it was just still sitting there within probably a half an inch of where I had set it down, and it didn't spill. And the trailer just rides incredibly smooth and gentle. So, you know, for the people that are thinking about it, if you're tired of getting your destination and everything in all your kitchen cabinets and stuff is just all rattled and thrown all over the place, this, I think it has about three inches of travel, and it just takes that bite out of the, out of the tongue going feeding into the trailer from the truck or tow rig. And likewise, I think it helps, you know, the back end of the truck move a little more freely. That's it. Well as a race car driver, and me being an automotive enthusiast, suspension's always important. Oli It is. Why not add suspension to one more thing, and just gonna soften that blow. Yeah. And you put air in it. So when you load it up, you can see the little grommets squished up there. The, the trick is, is when it's loaded, that'll open up a little bit, but you wanna put enough air in that it just starts to squish the grommet. And that's how easy it is to set the air pressure. I just do it visually. Brad Well, thanks to Oli and everyone we met at Ozark International today. Be sure to check out etrailer for all your trailer suspension needs. I'm Brad. Thanks for watching..

VERY SMOOTH ON THE ROAD AND EASY TO INS TAL

Works exactly as advertised. The only thing that could be improved is that it does not come with the bolts to install the hitch. Needed to buy 5/8 grade 8 bolts for it.

  • How Does Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler - Adjustable Channel Install on Travel Trailer
The Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler part # SHK73RR will require an adjustable channel on the trailer in order to mount. An example of this is the Trailer Tongue Vertical Channel Weld-On Adaptor part # SHK95RR which requires removing the old coupler and welding this one on. This setup isn't very common for most travel trailers so if you don't want to do a bunch of modifying to the trailer I recommend going with the Shocker Hitch HD Air Cushioned 2-Ball Mount part # SHK95VR which...

  • Best Coupler Lock Solution for Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler
Your Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler # SHK73RR uses an eZ-Latch coupler like what we see with the Demco # DM14040-81 so to secure this style of coupler I recommend using the etrailer Coupler Lock # e98888 when you have your trailer coupled to your tow vehicle, and then the Trimax Dual Purpose Coupler Lock and U-Lock # TMX67FR when your trailer is parked and unhitched. There are some more cost-effective solutions like the Curt Tri-Ball Trailer Coupler Lock # C48CR, but this...

  • Is There a Way To Replace The Coupler on a Travel Trailer For One That Would Be Longer For Clearance
The only way I can see increasing the distance for your Coupler # CA-5400-B without major frame modification would be to cut it off and weld in the Shocker Hitch Channel # SHK95RR so you would be able to use their Air Cushioned Coupler # SHK73RR. I do understand this is still a major undertaking and may not work if you are using a weight distribution hitch. If you can send me some additional photos of your setup and truck information I may be able to come up with an easier solution.

  • Using Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler # SHK73RR With Weight Distribution and Sway Hitch
Yes, the Shocker Hitch Air Cushioned Trailer Coupler # SHK73RR can be used with a weight distribution hitch system. To use it with a hitch like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ64FR you will need to follow these directions for inflating the air spring. Load trailer the way it will be towed. Inflate airbag on Shockerhitch. CAUTION: Keep hands and clothing away from moving parts of hitch to avoid pinching and injury. As air pressure increases, the unit will rotate lifting...
