Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we'll take a look at this replacement lid lifter for the Thule Motion XT, our Motion XT Alpine roof boxes. Now this part right here will replace a broken lid lifter on your Thule Motion XT roof box, works on part number TH629806, TH629906 and TH629706, the TH629907, the TH629807 or the TH629707 and it will also work on the Motion XT Alpine roof boxes, part number TH6295B or the TH6295W. All those roof boxes we do sell separately on our website. Now these roof boxes will come with two of these lid lifters on each roof box, one on each end to allow you to open the box from either end. Now this part is just for a quantity of one lid lifter and you can see the way it works, it is spring loaded.
You can see how it opens and then when you go to close it, closes just like that. And again, to open it, it'll pop open like that and then close it just like that. And again, one of these on each end. But that should do it for the review on this replacement lid lifter for the Thule Motion XT or the Motion XT Alpine roof boxes.

No instructions, you'll need a clamp to push it on. Appears to be higher quality than the originals.
I ordered a brand new Thule and it came to me scuffed up and damaged, so I sent it back. The replacement came with a broken lid lifter which I was broken in the box. This replacement piece works like it should and looks and feels exactly like the OEM part. Get this for your broken lid lifter. I am using this on a Motion XT XXL rear and used clamps to put on the lower connection and mallets for the top connection.
Was looking for a hinge replacement for my Audi cargo cover and this worked.

Replaced a failed lifter on my Thule box. Was a bit difficult to install had to use a couple clamps to get it done. Installation instructions from Thule would have been helpful.

I have had three (3) failures of this lifter hinge. In all cases, the lifter's thin-cheap plastic body, (containing the spring assembly) "exploded" apart into two separate pieces. Inconvenient...Yes...but the replacements were originally around $xx.xx (pre-COVID). When I ordered the same replacement lifter in the Fall of 2020, they had over DOUBLED in price!!!! Additionally, the suppliers, (both Thule and etrailer), estimated delivery as late as April 2021!!! Of course not very happy and definitely disappointed. Needing a lifter for my XXL Cargo Box, I actually designed a sheet metal "reinforcement sleeve" for my broken lifter, just to get me by. It works great! (The spring assembly produces a lot of force, so I strongly don't recommend anybody modifying the lifter after it fails). etrailer was very good about periodic e-mail updates on my order. Recently, I was notified by etrailer that there was a replacement lifter with a different part number which was available for immediate shipping. Still needing a new "proper" lifter, I nervously agreed to the new part. They arrived within the week, (I had ordered two (2) so I always had a spare). To my surprise, (apparently) Thule must have "agreed" that the lifter body was horribly deficient by design. The new lifter body is actually reinforced with a heavier rubberized plastic sleeve, which I assume will reduce some of the torque and various stresses on the original plastic body, thereby reducing the failure rate. I'm still not happy about the price doubling, (thinking that prices were inflated due to COVID demand); however if the price increase is due to a better/improved product, the price increase is definitely easier to accept. If the new and improved lifter has the lifespan of the cargo box itself, I would be happy to give it (5) Five Stars! I'll let you know. Thanks!
