Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're gonna take a look at this replacement Lid Lifter Hinge for the Thule Motion XT Rooftop Cargo Boxes. And it's for a quantity of one hinge. Now this part will replace a lid lifter hinge that's on the Thule motion XT rooftop cargo box. Works on the cargo box part number TH6298E or the TH6298T. Both of those boxes we do sell separate on our website.
Basically this hinge is what will open up the lid, see it sort of spring loaded. And the cargo box uses two of these hinges, one on each end to allow you to open or close the lid from either side of the vehicle. It will also hold the lid of the cargo box in the open position. Now, this part is for one of those hinges. As I mentioned, the box does use two of them.
This is a heavy duty plastic construction. If you notice this larger bottom portion has a nice rubber coating on to protect it. And that larger rubber coated side is what'll attach to the bottom of the cargo box and the smaller end here on the top, this is what attaches to the lid. So when you lift your lid open, it'll open the lid and hold it in the open position. This is for quantity of one replacement hinge.

Exactly what I needed to easily access my cargo box again. Just like the original hinge on my Thule Motion XT XL cargo box. Installation was easy. Used a large flathead screw driver to remove old hinge, a large c-clamp to install the new one.

That product works as designed. Unfortunately, it didn't fix the problem. Apparently the Thule Motion XT box top's lid isn't designed to stay all the way open. These hinges aren't strong enough to hold it up.

Perfect fit. Ordered a seemingly wrong one at first for my Audi cargo box, that one ended up fitting and so did this one. Customer Service was super helpful. Returned the wrong one and installed this one. Very happy overall.

I give etrailer a 5 for part availability, price and shipping speed. But, must give a 1 or 2 for installation difficulty. I was not able to get bottom of front hinge to snap in place.

Brooke, Thank you for your interest in my installation problem. My model is Thule Motion XT XXL and I cant get the lower part of the hinge to snap in place. I have attached a photo as you requested. let me know if you have any suggestions

I wish I could say there was a simple fix but it looks like you need a different hinge. I reached out to Thule they said you would need part # 1401495600 for the XXL model that you have. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

The part work fine, the the 5 star rating is based on their follow to update my order. My initial order set was a similar part that would have taken over a month so they suggested a different one which was delivered within a week.

Fit the pod perfectly. Very strong and sturdy replacement. It will take a little muscle to connect it, so make sure you have your teenager nearby.

Purchased this since this was in stock and etrailer’s recommended replacement for the Thule Atlantis 1600 (TH14936) was out of stock. Well in terms of size, this is the exact size and direct replacement for the lifters in my Atlantis 1600. I still have one original lifter, and this feels slightly weaker in terms of the spring inside. Still opens and closes and stays open just fine. Plus this one is over $10 less than the TH14936. Highly recommend this part and etrailer.

Does fit application. But has extremely poor spring strength and hardly does the job of holding the lid open.

I go through a front or back hinge every 18 months or so. They are difficult to get in and out (lots of torque required, and at awkward angles), but once installed, these tend to work great.

My contact at Thule said you might be able to use # TH14936 or the # 1401495200 you were looking at, but it is not a guaranteed fit.
