A cargo box has the added benefits of an aerodynamic shape that reduces drag and wind noise, a hard shell to protect your gear, and a higher degree of weather resistance. And you can latch and lock a cargo box for added protection against theft.
The Motion XT XXL has 22 cu ft of storage space for golf bags, luggage, skis, snowboards, and other gear. The aerodynamic, low-profile design helps to reduce drag and wind noise, and the locking lid conveniently opens from either side of your vehicle. The box has internal tie-down points for securing cargo, and the PowerClick mounting system offers easy, tool-free installation.
This cargo box is constructed of durable ABS plastic that is lightweight yet rigid and impact resistant. It has a glossy black, gel-coat finish that is stylish and less susceptible to chips, scratches, and harsh UV rays when compared with paint.
The Motion XT XXL features a dual-side-opening lid so you can load and access your gear from either side of your vehicle. Integrated, grip-friendly handles help you easily open and close the lid even with one hand. The lid has lifters that ensure it opens and closes smoothly. There is also a convenient pull cord on the inside that helps you close the lid.
The cargo box has SlideLock locks on each side of the lid. These locks have built-in indicators that let you know if the box is properly latched. The keys cannot be removed from the locks unless the lid is closed and locked. This prevents you from driving with an open or unlocked lid. The locks include Thule One-Key-System cores so you can swap them out to make all your Thule accessories keyed alike.
The box can be mounted on your vehicle in less than 5 minutes with the PowerClick mounting system. These clamps adjust along tracks in the floor of the box to accommodate different crossbar spreads.
To install the box, set it on your roof rack and center the clamps over your crossbars. Then simply turn the dials to tighten the clamps around the bars. The dials click when the clamps are secure.
The PowerClick assemblies on the inside of the box have fixed anchor points for securing your cargo. Just loop the included cargo straps through the anchor points and pull the straps tight to secure your gear.

We love our Thule rooftop box. It's a great accessory to our Honda Pilot, and made our frequent skiing & camping trips a lot easier. Quality is superb. For its size, it's actually relatively easy to mount (takes two people to lift it up). Loading/unloading requires standing on the frame of the car and is also easier with two people.
So I just received my 22cuft Thule rooftop carrier and it arrived somewhat damage free. The edges of the box where the nose and rear of the carrier were packaged very well with extra material. The center of the box was smashed and had several holes. I know the holes are not e trailer fault but actually the shipping company that sends it across the country. There was a removable plastic film on the carrier that I think helped a lot and kept the unit from being scratched. One area on the back lifted and now I have a small area that I need to wax and buff because it was scratched from the box. Overall I knew the risk in shipping an 8 foot box and just took the gamble. Overall it turned out ok.
I placed the carrier on my 22 kia telluride with factory bars. It fit perfect. The locking system worked and was secure to the bars on the roof. Both sides of this 22 cu ft carrier opened flawlessly and there is going to be plenty of room to place luggage inside. I’m glad I went with the 22 because I think I would have wanted a bigger one if I got the 18. My issues are not skis and tents but actual luggage when we all travel so the extra room is great. Have not traveled with it yet and if I have issues after the first trip I will edit this review.

I am extremely happy with the way my Motion XT XXL looks on my 2021 Kia Telluride. It was very easy to install and I can't wait to load it up for our first trip this summer. etrailer.com was very easy to deal with and kept me up to date with emails keeping me apprised of the progress of my order.
Transformational - stores 6 sleeping bags, pads, 9-person tent, chairs, table, pie irons, laundry, and miscellaneous other things with ease. Observed a ~1 mpg negative impact on a 5k+ mile trip with minimal added wind noise. Makes the sunroof less useful, but the tradeoff is worth it - a fantastic, spacious product. Would like a solar panel up there to charge USB devices.
Cargo box arrived scuffed in a torn cardboard box. The Thule box seems nice and built well. It is however VERY heavy. I went from a Thule Evolution that I could install myself to this which requires two people to lift to get it on top of my suv without damage. It also takes up a lot more space in storage.
The first cargo box showed up missing some internal parts. etrailer replaced it quickly. Just had to prove destruction of the first one. etrailer did great as a retailer.
As far as the actual cargo box, it falls into the ok category. Definately not worth the premium price I paid for it. After looking at a bunch of them and comparing this on to others, they are all flimsy and temperamental about opening and closing. It does the job, holds a bunch of stuff, but just doesn't feel solid or sturdy.
Bought the Motion XT XXL to replace my XL. Much bigger and worth the extra money. Works great. etrailer is my go-to. Couldn't ask for a better experience during and after my purchase. Unbelievable customer service both via email and phone. Can't say enough about this company and their staff.

Great fit for our Ascent. We’ve only test driven it while preparing for an upcoming trip but it was quiet enough and rode well. I was concerned that it would be too large on the roof of our 2020 Subaru Ascent but I think it’s perfect. It’s huge on the inside!
Great product! Was able to fit a surprising amount of luggage in carrier and freed up enough room for 3 adults 3 dogs and a baby in the truck. Have it sitting on a thule wing bar Evo rack I purchased from etrailer, and was solid at highway speeds (about 85mph). Box was large so it had to be shipped via freight which I never had to deal with before, but customer service was top notch. Love the product and love this company.
We received the item damaged. After calling them and waiting 20 minutes, we were told that they could get a replacement and schedule a pickup of the damaged item. They said we would be responsible for repacking the damaged item and preparing it for pickup, this is not so easy as it is a very large item and we have no place to store it in the meantime (could be a week or 2 before pickup is scheduled). No idea how long for the new item to arrive, they said the replacement delivery would not be expedited, just sent whenever it's sent. Likely the damage was caused by the shipping, but it should be noted that the packing job was terrible, barely any protective packaging and the box was torn open with the damaged front end as well as the keys fallen out. After all was settled they don't offer any compensation or rebate for the trouble we went through of having to store, repack and schedule the pickup as well as wait for the new replacement. I would definitely recommend considering other companies for future purchases

This has been one of the best purchases of the year. It turned my Highlander capacity into a full-size SUV. No brainer purchase.
Over the past year we have logged more than 16,500 miles with the Thule XT XXL (22 cu ft) atop our 2021 Kia Telluride. It has performed well and only complaint is that the slide lock can be difficult to open. Not sure what our MPG would have been without it, but we did average greater than 23 MPG with it. This is one of several purchases we have made from etrailer.com and the customer support has been awesome!
Fantastic product - it is so aerodynamic you do not even know it is on your car (far better than the old canvas type luggage carrier we were using). It is easy to mount and use with lots of space. We could not be more pleased with our Thule.
This is the best roof box - great looking and fitting on our Audi Q7, easy to get on/off, easy to open/close and fantastic for holding all sorts of gear. We use it all winter long to hold our skis and then it's perfect for summer road and camping travels. I highly recommend spending the extra $$ for the Thule Motion.
Used for a 4 month road trip across the US (FL to WA) then back thru Canada. Allowed us the extra dry storage space we needed. Love the ability to access storage from either side. Easily removed and reinstalled with the hand clamps.
The original unit arrived in packaging showing signs of very rough handling by the shipping company. The unit itself had no visual signs of damage. After mounting on my car, the carrier was found to have a defective lock. I called etrailer and they immediately sent another carrier and arranged to have the old one picked up. The replacement order was received yesterday. The packaging was in great shape, the unit complete, blemish free, and functionally perfect. The defective unit was picked up shortly after the shipping company departed. The driver was courteous, and helped me carry the repackaged original carrier from the garage to the truck. etrailer is the most competent, professional, responsible, and customer oriented supplier I have ever done business with..

I have made 2 long, 2800 mile trips with my Thule car top carrier. It performed trouble free. Heavy wind and rainfall were encountered, but the contents remained dry. The carrier was very stabile in heavy wind and mileage was not significantly reduced. Storage capacity was great.
Absolutely love our roof box! It can hold so much gear so that our Subaru outback isn't stuffed. We can fit all of our ski gear for five people in our roof box. It also looks really nice on top of the car.
i love this. roomier than imagined, yet light weight enough to get it on the car. fits great on my bmw x5.

Has made traveling with 4 kids in a Subaru Ascent possible. It’s been camping, skiing and on other trips! Never an issue with water and it’s easy on/off the roof.
Product has been used on 3, 2,000 mile plus round trips and has performed well. It holds tons of gear and is very stable. Only issue is the glossy finish shows scratches and marks much easier than non-glossy ones (I’ve used both kinds). Also the glossy finish shows the dirt more as well and requires more cleaning to keep up looks. Other than that it is excellent.
Took the box on a 6000 mile trip through the US and Canada mounted on the roof of a Toyota RAV4 Prime. We loaded it to the max (barely closing) and way overweight. The back clears the hatch of the RAV4 easily, and there was zero water ingress. The closing mechanism is far superior to our 2000s Thule box- the latch won’t close all the way if any of the latching points aren’t secure, but unlike the earlier boxes, they are easy to load bags right up to, and still have them latch. Full disclosure, our first one arrived with a crack in the front- etrailer was fantastic with the return and replacement.
Works great! Tremendous amount of space, easily fits all snow gear (including full length Nordic XC skis) as well as all the other odds and ends you might bring for a family vacation. This helps make family vacation packing stress free. It’s also easy to put on and remove: you need two people but it’s light enough that neither person needs to be a weight lifter: I enlist my wife and she doesn’t complain. Plan to soon enlist my 9 year old.
Added bonus: when off the car in the garage I use this to hide Christmas gifts in locked storage. :)

I have used my carrier twice for family trips and it has been great. I couldnt even notice any difference in driving and was amazed by how much I could fit in it. It will be used at least 2 more times this year. Very satisfied with this purchase.
