The Motion XT XL has 18 cu ft of storage space for golf bags, luggage, skis, snowboards, and other gear. The aerodynamic, low-profile design helps to reduce drag and wind noise, and the locking lid conveniently opens from either side of your vehicle. The box has internal tie-down points for securing cargo, and the PowerClick mounting system offers easy, tool-free installation.
This cargo box is constructed of durable ABS plastic that is lightweight yet rigid and impact resistant. It has a glossy silver, gel-coat finish that is stylish and less susceptible to chips, scratches, and harsh UV rays when compared with paint.
The Motion XT XL features a dual-side-opening lid so you can load and access your gear from either side of your vehicle. Integrated, grip-friendly handles help you easily open and close the lid even with one hand. The lid has lifters that ensure it opens and closes smoothly. There is also a convenient pull cord on the inside that helps you close the lid.
The cargo box has SlideLock locks on each side of the lid. These locks have built-in indicators that let you know if the box is properly latched. The keys cannot be removed from the locks unless the lid is closed and locked. This prevents you from driving with an open or unlocked lid. The locks include Thule One-Key-System cores so you can swap them out to make all your Thule accessories keyed alike.
The box can be mounted on your vehicle in less than 5 minutes with the PowerClick mounting system. These clamps adjust along tracks in the floor of the box to accommodate different crossbar spreads.
To install the box, set it on your roof rack and center the clamps over your crossbars. Then simply turn the dials to tighten the clamps around the bars. The dials click when the clamps are secure.
The PowerClick assemblies on the inside of the box have fixed anchor points for securing your cargo. Just loop the included cargo straps through the anchor points and pull the straps tight to secure your gear.

This roof box has worked perfectly for us. We bought it for a two week driving/camping trip out west. It is very expensive but it seems well made. It fits our 2008 Land Cruiser perfectly. I also measured it to fit our 2018 Volvo XC90 as well. We filled it will all our camping supplies: family size tent, 4 sleeping bags, 4 sleeping pads, plus some odds and ends. The one time we hit rain it did not appear to leak. We definitely do see a drop in MPG’s during interstate driving. There is a little more wind noise with it installed but its not too bad and we didn’t really notice it after the first day. We did go off road with it, including around the White Rim trail. This wasn’t too extreme, but it was around 100 miles of very rough trail. The box was solid during it all.
Easy to open and close. Holds a great deal of materials. Only challenge is blocking of satellite radio antenna when headed South. On a 2019 Subaru Outback wagon. No issue with full opening of rear hatch.
Bought this for a road trip where we needed extra space. The cargo box was easy to lift and mount on our roof rack. It's a bit clunky to do with one person, but super easy with two. The cargo box is strong, easy to open from either side, locks securely, and holds a ton of stuff. The great aerodynamic shape means it hardly affected our fuel economy. this is the second Item we've purchased from trailer.com and were 100% satisfied. I highly recommend the cargo box and trailer.com. The product information and videos are perfect. They made deciding what to get easy.
Bought for a Lexus RX350L. I have it on the Wing Bar with Evo Flush Rail Feet. The wind noise is minimal. The XL 18 cu ft version fits great and the RX350L probably could have fit the next size up too. Plenty of room for the rear lift gate and the box is not in view while driving. It also only weighs about 45lbs empty so it was easy to put on the roof. The clamps to attach also slide back and forth so exact distance between the racks is not required.
Service from etrailer was great. We got a free shipping offer even with large freight shipping required. Customer service made sure our item was shipped in time for our trip. They also had this in stock when other places were sold out or charging $160+ to ship.
Excellent cargo box - spacious, quality made and easy to install. Most importantly - item was in stock and delivered very promptly! etrailer customer service is superb! They helped me to get the correct size for my van and made sure I received the order on time. I used it already on our trip to San Diego. Made a lot of difference - travelling in a van with 6 people, we were able to fit all luggage in the trunk and roof box!

Excellent carrier! After a couple long road trips I feel comfortable giving this a “highly recommended” rating. Works well, easy to open and load/unload and quiet on the road. Etrailer was awesome, great communication and fast shipping, especially considering the size.
It's a good cargo box, no major complaints. However, if you are buying the best, you'd hope for all kinks to be worked out. Here are my annoyances: Driving through a big downpour, water did get into the box, which I thought would not happen due to the taller front "lip" design of the Motion line. Also, the closing mechanism is easily obstructed by the longer items, which you have to always fiddle with when loading. Finally, I would've hoped for a more rigid frame, as if you don't set the nose to stick out the least, it will wobble up and down on the interstate.
Buying experience with etrailer.com was easy and fast. Ordered it and received within a week as promised. This was the only retailer that had the Thule Motion XT XL Titanium in stock. I liked that I could track the status of my order even through the shipping coming down to an estimated ETA.
As for the box, it looks great on our Wilderness Green 2016 3.6R Outback. The Outback has silver trim along the windows and other areas so it looks nice and we thought the lighter colored box would not absorb as much heat during travel. Fits perfectly and we have about a cm that cleared our garage opening (I think our opening was the standard 81-83 inches). My husband and 12 year old son installed it. My son gave it a 4 for install because the clamps didn't catch just right so it took a few tries to clamp it down. Durability was a 5. He said they scraped it against a few things moving it from garage to the car and then into the basement to store it and didn't scratch up the finish too bad. They took it for a drive with an empty box. My husband said there was a bit of noise but nothing terrible. Another forum said the noise could be due to holes in the design of the original factory installed roof rack. We will find the holes and plug them up to see if that fixes it. My husband said he will feel better if he uses additional straps to tie it down to the roof rack as another precaution to ensure the box doesn't fly off. I forgot to take a picture, but trust me, the Titanium looks good and the XL fits! We considered the Yakima 16 cubic feet Skybox, but for the styling, extra 2 cubic ft with same length box, and the fact we will take this off and on quite a bit for weekend getaways, we thought it was worth the extra money.
Exceeded my expectations. We have this mounted on a chevy suburban, we replaced a 15 year old 16 sq fr. rocket box that was just worn out. The Thule is easy to mount on the stock crossbars, super easy to open and close, and makes no noticeable wind noise. It's built very well. Only reason we didn't get the XXL was it would be too tall for our cabin garage, so make sure you measure your space wisely! Would purchase again, I've been a Yakima guy for years but I think I'm switching brands!!
It was a quick shipment and transportation arrangement. It can be seen that the handling of the carrier was terrible, and there were many footprints on the outer box and it was handled messily. Fortunately there were no scratches on the product. Hesitate when buying large items.
This cargo box is now the perfect size for our car (Subaru Crosstrek) and can carry a lot of luggage. It can be accessed from either side by opening both left and right. The exterior is also glossy and luxurious, and I am satisfied.
Item was delivered on time and in good conditions. It’s perfect for our needs. We often do long road trips to Canada and it’s nice to be able to carry extra stuff without cramping up the space inside the car. Just need to be mindful of the weight. We drove through torrential rain and our stuff remained perfectly dry. Also even in strong winds, we barely feel the box on top of the car. For reference, we drive a Toyota Prius. We’re very happy with our purchase.

XL fits a 2020 Honda Pilot very well. Nice option to have the box open from either side, and it stays open on its own. Lock is secure. Requires two people to lift the box on top of an SUV. Easy to secure the box to horizontal bars. Overall, very happy with the box!
I was told to expect delivery on the 6th and here it is can’t get better than that. Didn’t open the box it’s a X-Mas present and the box was in good condition so I’ll assume the product inside is perfect, won’t really know until Santa Comes but it should be fine if not pretty sure trailer will take care of it.

The only reason I marked 4 stars and not five is that on of the lock tumblers falls out when I unlock. Not a big deal and I should have addressed long ago but, but I never gave it much thought after our last trip. In saying that, etrailer was excellent to work with.

This thing is huge and surprisingly easy to put on and take off my car roof. I have a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder, so it's up there a bit; and I am only 5'9" with a medium build. We've taken this all over the east coast USA in the past year, and it has been a really great enhancement to our family travel during the pandemic. We can bring it all with us!!!
