Video Transcript for Swagman Replacement Bike Rack Insert Review

What's up everybody it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to be checking out this anti-rattle block replacement for our Swagman bike rack. Now, it works with a couple of different Swagman bike racks and what this does is replace this block that's in this inside of the shank and that helps it be anti-rattle. So this is going to tighten down as you put the bolt through and move to the corner of the shank, which pushes it into the hitch receiver and keeps it in place. Now, I know that doesn't do you a lot of good you don't see what I'm talking about, but really we're going to have to replace it to show you how it works. What happened with ours is somebody...

We had a bunch of different bike racks out here. Somebody put the wrong it's ride able through the block and then across threaded, so then therefore it's useless. You can't use this bike rack anymore. So what we're going to do is pop off the sleeve and get this new one installed. So first off, we're going to move the sleeve. So I got a ratchet and a torques bit.

It's going to loosen it here on the side. I might be able to get the block out without removing this, but I'll make it easy and camera friendly so I'm going to do it this way. Put that off there, I can see where the block is. I'll grab my screwdriver, tilt it up so maybe you can seal the better. It's going to take the screwdriver and push the block back.

This rubber O-rings do grab so it doesn't push out super easy, which is a good thing. You don't want that to happen on accident. Slowly, pried out, little by little using the indention where the O-ring. So I pushed the rubber O-ring out of the way with the screwdriver. There's an indention of that.

I could get the screwdriver in there and push up a little bit more. I can get further behind the block and get it out of there.Just like that. So the groove I was talking about, I just want to show you, did he saw me struggle with it just a little bit and you can see there's a groove. So at first I went in there and was pushing it there as far as I could with the access hole, but then once this was all covered up, I couldn't get back there. So I just pried it underneath the rubber ring and push it the rest of the way. So now with the new one, it's going to push it into place. Now this time, I want to be careful not to push it past the hole that you want it lined up with. We're just adjusting the rubber O-ring. Got a place it on me. Almost there. We're a little too far, bring it back. Looks like that's good. So just an extra tip that I was messing with as I was pushing it in, it seemed like the O-ring was getting dragged back.Because there's not a lot of room in that shank. So then when it was in place, you had the ring in front of the part where you want to put the bolt in and you don't want to leave it like that. So I just went in there with a screwdriver, pushed back on it and push it back into the screw from this access hole, just an extra tip to help make sure it goes in there nice and neat. And it doesn't give you any problems. Now, we're going to put on our heads, make sure it works. Come in and add our anti-rattle bolt. Nice and tight. Look at that. It's not going anywher.e as you saw, it's really easy to replace that little block that's inside the shank way, better than have to buy a whole new bike rack and you buy this part, put it in there and it's good as new. Well, thanks for hanging out. And I hope this helped.

Replacement Receiver Insert for Swagman Bike Racks - Hitch End - P313

Average Customer Rating:  4.8 out of 5 stars   (37 Customer Reviews)

Replaces the insert in your Swagman hitch mounted bike rack. Works with the Chinook (64683), G10 (64682),Trailhead (63360), and XC (64650) hitch mounted bike racks.

by:

This insert has a good design using the O-rings to position and hold it in place. This enables the 1/2" threaded HITCH PIN to be inserted from either left or right side and insert is easily replaceable. I use the insert in a XC2 carrier which is modified to carry a wheel-on tandem bike.

The insert can get too far inside the receiver bar (Swagman term) which is difficult to get out. I D & T'ed a stainless 1/4-20 socket head cap screw into the one end of the insert (see photos). This screw protrudes 19mm in the normal position and 5mm when the insert is pushed in against the L-BRACKET BOLT for 1-1/4" RECEIVER BAR. The head of the screw is easy to grab and pull the insert out to the normal position or remove for cleaning.

The Replacement 2" Adapter for Swagman 1-1/4" to 2" Bike Racks works great and I would give it a 5 star rating. The Replacement Receiver Insert for Swagman Bike Racks did not initially fit the rack. I had to grind and sand the insert until I could get it into the hitch end.

by:

This hitch insert is not even close in size to the old one from my Swagman Semi 2.0 bike carrier. See attached photo. Can you help? New one from etrailer on the right. I cannot fit the one you provided. Thanks

We carry two s from Swagman and this one part # P313 works with the Chinook 64683, G10 64682,Trailhead 63360, and XC 64650 hitch mounted bike racks. Based on your review and picture you need part # P333 which measures 1.30 inches by 0.75 inches. It is used with the Swagman XTC and XTC-2 Bike Carriers.

Just got back from Florida and everything worked great! Keep up the good work good company’s are out there you just have to find them!

by:

It is the correct piece, but the edges are square whereas the corners of the inside of the tube are rounded. I had to grind off all four corner edges in order to make it fit.

by:

Great replacement for the original part-plastic insert that broke, admittedly after five years of excellent service, but still, this all metal unit should last me out.

by:

The high quality Swagman products are still performing flawlessly.

by:

Product was even better than the original that came with the Swagman bike rack. This one was metal as compared with the OEM plastic. This one won't break. Why have a product with a plastic nut that will undergo some tightening. Bad design.

  • Comparing Swagman Shank Inserts # P313 and # P333 and Can they Be Used in 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Extender
Replacement receiver insert # P313 is designed to fit the Swagman XC bike rack, # S64650. Receiver insert # P333 is designed for the XTC bike rack, # S64670. Both of these bike racks have a 1-1/4 inch shank. For a compatible threaded hitch pin use # P5902 for either one. These parts could be used in another 1-1/4 inch accessory provided that the accessory has a hollow shank. Once the threaded pin is removed there would be nothing in the shank to hold the insert inside the shank so the...

  • Replacement Hitch Bolt for Swagman Trailhead 3 Bike Rack
In regards to the Swagman Trailhead 3 Bike Rack part # S63365, if you can't get the bolt to thread then first clean the threads but if they are damaged then you will need replacements. For the hitch bolt you can use part # P5902 or part # S64029 for locking. That said, the receiver insert could be damaged as well so I recommend replacing this while you are at it, part # P313.

Specifically, they told me, "The P313 will fit if it is the 1-1/4“ bar that came with the 2 bike version. If they have the 2” receiver bar it should be built in." I have added a link to a video review of Receiver Insert # P313 for you to check out as well.
