Have not installed yet, but looks and feels heavy duty, not cheap. Shipping was as advertised. So far, I am pleased, and would not hesitate to order from etrailer again.

If you are mounting these to wooden surface use fasteners for wood, e.g. wood screws. For a metal surface use fasteners made for metal, e.g. self-tapping sheet metal screws. Can E-Tracks Attach to Trailer's Mesh Floor
Yes, you could use E-Track on a trailer with a steel mesh with the proper backing plate under the mesh and/or by securing it to the support beams on the underside of the trailer. You can use backing plate # BPEZ and carriage bolt hardware kit part # SLHCBDS-P and you'd be set.

There is no backing plate we offer with the same 5-1/16" apart on center spacing that the mounting holes of the Snap-Loc E-Track Tie-Down Anchor # SLSZ. However, these anchors can be mounted onto any smooth surface and an E-track backing plate is not needed to install these anchors; all you need is the Carriage Bolt Hardware for Snap-Loc E-Track Tie-Down Anchors # SLHCBDS-P and you'd be set.

What is the Proper Orienation for Installation of Snap-Loc E-Track Tie-Down Anchor
The Snap-Loc E-Track Tie-Down Anchor # SLSS will have the same break strength and safe working load limit no matter what the orientation is when installed. The maximum load (break strength) is 3,000 lbs and the safe working load limit is 1,000 lbs. You will want to follow the working load limit and make sure not to exceed 1,000 lbs.
