Video Transcript for Roadmaster Tow Bars Replacement Inner Arm Review

Today, we're gonna repair a Falcon 2 Tow Bar using part number C000172 from RoadMaster. This is a replacement inner arm for RoadMaster Falcon 2 and BlackHawk tow bars. Right, here's our Falcon 2 Tow Bar we've got right here and you can see the damaged component right here. All right. The reason why this is dented is because you broke the golden rule: never back up the tow bar. So, what happens is that something's gotta give when you back up.

Tow bar is designed to go forwards not backwards and this is gonna be your end result. Now, our kit consists of these two parts. Of course, the metal arm right here and a replacement locknut. You get a replacement nut for this part of the hardware right here. Everything else, including this and a bolt, will be reused. Now, let's go ahead and start working on the disassemble of our tow bar to repair it.

Here's a little plastic cap right here, which you can pry off with a screwdriver. We'll save that and put it back on later. Next up, we need to remove the swivel ear right here by taking apart this bolt. We'll need a quarter inch Allen key for the top and a nine sixteenths socket or a wrench for the bottom. Remember, we'll save the bolt but we have a new nut.

And save all the other pieces as well. Next up, we need to remove the round nut, which isn't put on tight at all, so you can simply unthread it. All right, now the real fun begins because this arm cannot be removed going off the back here. It has to go off the front. Of course, it's bent. We can't do that.

So, we're gonna have to take a cutting wheel and cut as close as we can to the edge here and then take off the rest out the front. Now, our bar was in the lock position so we'll inaudible 00:01:47 by pushing the button down. We'll give it a few taps with a hammer to get it started. Now, take a pry bray or some kind of rod. We can just push this through out the front. To help push out the rest of the old part, I'm gonna use a couple extensions three eights stacked up and just used to help put it out. Okay When you get it pushed it out, pull out the rest. Now, we have all the internal pieces apart, now would be a good time to take a towel or a shop towel or anything you've got and we're gonna take it and push it through and make sure you get all the dirt and debris that you can out. Now, let's take our new component. Slowly slide it into place. Before we push it in, two things to know. First off, make sure that this washer on the bottom is in its original spot like it was first, then we have to go to the other end and raise it up so we can help push it in. Now, to get it over its edge right here, I'm gonna take a screwdriver, stick it in there, and pry it up. Hopefully, you saved this part here because we need this little piece here and the little spring that's underneath it. We'll transfer them to the new component, then we'll push it inside. We'll pull it through and check to make sure it locks in the place and we have proper operation. Now, we'll go ahead and start reinstalling our parts. We'll start easy with our little plastic cap on the end. Let's go ahead and reinstall our round nut. I'm gonna actually add some anti-seize compound to the threads, just in case this needs to be serviced again. Hopefully not. Slide a round nut on and thread it into place. Now, I'm gonna continue threading this on until we can see the threads of the rod come through here and you can see a little detent right there. So, that detent in the end of the rod has to match up with the holes on our round nut, so we'll back it off until it evens up. We should have minimal play between the bolt and this arm when it's all said and done. I'll go ahead and test it a few times. There. Swivel ear goes back into place. Make sure you save those bushings. We'll install it the same way that it came off. Might need a screwdriver to help align things and reinstall our bolt. May help you to use the screwdriver align the little bushing on the bottom there. Go ahead and make sure it pushes into place. Now, I'll install our new locknut right here and tighten it down with original tools. Now, when we tighten this down, we will make it's snug not over tight. We want to make sure it still swivels. So, we'll go ahead and compare it from our original one right here. Make sure it has the same amount of pay as the original one did. Once we've satisfied that requirement, we're good to go. We're now finished with part number C000172 from RoadMaster. The replacement inner arm for RoadMaster Falcon 2 and BlackHawk tow bars.

etrailer is always great to work with. If you have a question give them a call and they are almost assured to have an answer for you. Product arrived in a timely fashion with no damage and was brand new as advertised.

Will definately buy from them again.

by:

Product is great but the delivery time to get the parts was not very good. I understand it wasn't your fault but I think you sould put more pressure on the supplier to supply the parts when needed, especially something so trivial as the round nut I needed. Would have been very unhappy if I had a trip planned!!

by:

Fast ship. Perfect fit. Reasonable price. Until I visited their site I didn't even know the bar could be fixed. I especially liked the mounting instructions. Without them I would have had a hard time replacing the bar.

by:

The product was exactly as advertised. The photo of the replacement inner arm for our tow bar helped me identify it as the correct one. Shipping was prompt and communication was good.

by:

Always first class service from etrailer. I have bought most of their items they offer for my trailer and motorhome. Excellent products at reasonable and fair prices. 5 Stars!

by:

With the help of the video, replacing the inner arm was quite easy. The only caution I would add, is about the detent and spring in the end of the arm. It got away from me when I pushed the arm out. It took me over an hour to find them. A caution PRIOR to pushing the remaining portion of the arm out. Also a caution as to which way the connecting end is installed on the arm. It will go on either way but there is only one right way.

by:

Perfect replacement. I didn't realize that I had a RM 5250 tow bar. I thought I just had a Falcon 2. I had to return the first part which went without a problem.

by:

The item I ordered was on back order but the communication from etrailer was excellent. I highly recommend using this company.

by:

Got it quick and it worked perfect. I watched the video on how to properly install it, it was very easy

  • What To Do When Your Falcon 2 Tow Bar Crumples From Driving In Reverse
Unfortunately tow bars are only designed to pull forward and will crumple just like yours did if you put any pressure on it going in reverse. The Brightside here is that you may be able to get away with just replacing the arms if they are the only damaged part. You'll need two of part # C000172 and you'll want to watch the attached video below where Joe will walk you through replacing the arms. It sounds like you are talking about the swivel collars, # RM-9200-4, on the ends of the arms of the Falcon 2 tow bar # RM-520. These are the parts that attach to the base plates. Considering what happened with your tow bar I would give it a thorough inspection because there could be internal damage that isn't obvious. • Troubleshooting Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar with Stuck Inner Arm
The first thing you should do is check the bar with a straight-edge to determine if it is bent. If you determine that it is straight you will need to disassemble it and clean it. There is a nut on the forward end by the pivots, and a keeper assembly that installs with circlips at the lever. I would recommend you take pictures as you disassemble it so that you will know how it reinstalls. Next step is to clean it like you never want to clean it again. Next, you will want to reassemble it...
