Video Transcript for RoadMaster 12 inch Safety Cable Extensions Review

Hello neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer. And today we're taking a look at the Roadmaster Safety Cable Extensions. Now, these are 12 inches long, and these are gonna be great when you might have a high, low adapter for your flat-toed vehicle and your safety cables are not gonna be long enough. Rather than buying a whole new safety cable, you can just simply put these on and fix the problem. So as you can see, our safety cable is not able to attach to our base plate. And the reason being is the fact that we did have to do a pretty large high, low adapter for this combination of RV and vehicle.

So some of that high, low adapting takes a lot of that length out of our original safety cables, so we're gonna need to extend them. So we'll just take off our original safety cables here and again, not having to buy a whole new system or cables is gonna be great because you can simply just clip this on and we get that extra added length with no problem. So that's gonna allow us to be able to hook on not only to our RV side, but now we can actually use our safety cable and hook it up to our base plate. Problem solved, so adding that 12 inches of added length to our cables is gonna be great, not only so we can actually hook up to our vehicle to be legal, but also it's not gonna bind up or get too tight when making turns with the vehicle behind us. So again, if you need to extend your safety cables, these Roadmaster ones are gonna be a quick way to do that.

And again, not having to replace safety cables in total is kind of nice in itself. So if this is a solution for you, it might be worth looking at. And that's a look at the Roadmaster Safety Cable Extensions that are 12 inches..

Cable are well built

Product served it's purpose, however I found a better solution using 1/2 Hammerlocks to provide suitable connection points for trailer safety chains on my 2018 2500HD Silverado 2.5" hitch platform. The Roadmaster cables were under the load requirement for a 18k lbs trailer. The Hammerlocks are rated at 12k lbs each.

Purchased hitch ball, ball mount, hitch extender, wiring extension, safety chain extension, and storage bags for a Jeep Liberty. ETrailer has a great selection of products, with good prices, and fast shipping. We will definitely buy from them again.
We have not had an opportunity to use the items purchased, but anticipate no problems.

We use a dual hitch receiver on our RV for the tow vehicle and bike rack. The toad safety cables need to be longer when using the dual hitch receiver. The 12" safety cable extensions provide the additional length needed.

by:

In the process of setting up our new to us Jeep to tow with our RV, turns out I needed to get a drop receiver. After I received that I discovered that my safety cables were barely not long enough to be safe. I found these 12" extensions you folks carry and ordered them. Shortly after I ordered them I received a call from you to confirm my address. This showed me you cared about my order. They were shipped same day of the order and I just got them today (two days later). What a great company. I will order again from you folks. The 12" extensions were the perfect length for my needs. Thank you for some really great service!

by:

Can't pass along enough praise for you folks! Ordered these, along with a pair of safety cable extensions, on Easter weekend. Received an email notifying shipment... on Easter day! While not a large order, I needed them for a trip the following week, so was concerned they wouldn't arrive in time. Even though I didn't request rapid shipping, they arrived in plenty of time. Thanks much!

by:

The safety cables arrived yesterday. I tried to put them on the rig today and the threaded fasteners will not open sufficiently to allow placing them on the towbar. I will try a slight hammer to force them onto the bar but this may damage the threads on the device.

Will let you know if they need to be returned.

by:

Good service. Resolved an issue I had with the trailer hitch on my 2019 Chevy HD 2500. Will use again.

by:

These extensions were necessary to use my Tow Bar extension. Works great.

by:

Thanks for the tech advice. These were the answer to the crazy hitch on my new Silverado 2500 HD. Don’t know why they designed a hitch that the average safety chains won’t attach to.

by:

The chains to my new boat were not long enough and after a year + these have held up perfectly (launching in salt water no less) and are exactly what I wanted.

by:

Excellent service from etrailer.com . Accurate description of products and reasonable prices makes it hard to go to any other vendor. Thanks for the quick delivery as well.

by:

Second purchase from etrailer. As usual, the items are a good price and they arrived when promised. Will always check etrailer for the parts I need first.

by:

Order arrived on time, all items as ordered. Thanks for making this so easy!

PERFECT SAFETY CABLE EXTENSION AFTER USING THE 6 INCH DROP ADAPTER

by:

The cables are fit perfectly and are easy to install. Rebecca N at etrailer was very helpful in my purchase.

by:

Great craftsmanship, perfect fit. Delivered on time, very important because i needed it on time to leave for our vacation!

by:

Received product today. Hopefully it's not to long. Not quite ready to connect up yet, looking forward to give the cables a try.

by:

As advertised. They were shipped quickly and arrived a day early.Excellent service. Thank you very much

by:

  • What is the Weight Capacity for the Roadmaster 12-Inch Safety Cable Extensions # RM-910648-12
The 8000-lb rating for the Roadmaster Tow Bar Safety Cable Extensions, part # RM-910648-12, is the total for the pair. These safety cable extensions are for use when flat towing an automobile behind a mobile home. When towing a trailer safety chains (not cables) are required. Fulton offers a safety chain rated at 18,800-lbs. This has a clevis hook on one end and measures 42-inches in length. You will need two. The part # is FCHA0050324.

  • Attaching Trailer Safety Chains to Large Chain Loops on 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500 Factory Hitch
That 2015 Silverado hitch and its safety chains loops have caused more than a few headaches but I do have a solution that has worked for others. A clevis such as # 6495-401-04 won't work but what I have recommended before is to route some safety cables through each loop and secure the 2 ends together with quick links such as in kit # RM-910648-12. Then you can attach the safety chains from the trailer to the quick links. Wear would not be an issue since the cables are more or less just...

  • Do I Need Cable Extensions for Trailer Safety Chains on 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500
It does look like the 40" Vinyl Coated Safety Cables with Clevis Hook # DL20119 have an issue fitting the Silverado safety chain loops so I do recommend picking up the Cable Extensions # RM-910648-12 which you can loop through the safety chain connection points and then hook the safety chains to the extensions. Attached are some review videos for you to check out.

  • Solution for Attaching Safety Chains to Loops on 2018 Ford Truck Factory Hitch
You are not the first customer to have issues with the safety chain hooks on the OEM trailer hitch for your 2018 Ford truck. Using a quick link like the Curt # C82932 that you referenced might be a good option, as long as the gap on the link is large enough to fit around the loops. When opened, the Quick Link has a gap that measures 5/8" of an inch and the inside length is 3-5/16 inches. I have attached a video to clarify these dimensions. If this is not large enough, another solution...

  • Safety Chain Hooks Won't Fit Class V Trailer Hitch on a Chevy Silverado 3500HD
I have come across this issue before. What I recommended was to loop safety cables # RM-910648-12 through the hitch safety chain holes and hook the safety chains to the loops. The cables are rated for 8,000 pounds which is the highest for these short cables. There doesn't seem to be any hooks that will fit directly to the factory Class V hitch on your Chevy 3500.

  • Weight Rating of Quick Links Included with Roadmaster Safety Cable Extensions RM-910648-12
The Roadmaster Safety Cable Extensions # RM-910648-12 do include Quick Link connectors. The connectors alone are part # RM-910022 and these are rated for 6000-lbs. Other Quick Links like Curt # C82931 are rated lower, in this case 2640-lbs.

  • Hooking Safety Chains to Class V Factory Trailer Hitch on 2014 GMC Sierra
The best option for using safety chains with the Class V factory trailer hitch on your 2014 GMC Sierra is simply to loop safety cables like # RM-910648-12 through each chain hole and secure the ends together. You can then just attach your safety chains from the trailer to the quick links on these cables. These have a weight capacity of 8,000 pounds. We have not yet found a hook that is able to fit directly with the factory trailer hitch on your Sierra.

  • Where to Connect Safety Cables on Jeep When Using Blue Ox Off Road Adapters
That is an excellent question! Since you will be using your D-Rings for the Blue Ox Off-Road Adapters # BX88296 you will need to find a place on your frame that you can connect the safety cables to. One possible option would be to use RoadMaster 12" Safety Cable Extensions # RM-910648-12 to loop around your frame and then connect the safety cables to these. I confirmed that this would be okay with my contact at Blue Ox.

  • Are Base Plate to Frame Safety Cables Required for the Roadmaster XL, EZ4, or EZ5
I spoke to my contact at Roadmaster and they stated that the short safety cables that you are referring to are not required when using either the Roadmaster XL part # 1444-1, Roadmaster EZ4 part # RM-521448-4, or Roadmaster EZ5 part # RM-521448-5 on your 2018 Jeep JK Wrangler Unlimited. You can add them for extra peace of mind using part # RM-910648-12 but they are not required. The safety chain loops you are referring to on the above base plate kits go to the motorhome not the vehicle. Please...

  • Troubleshooting Flat Tires When Towing Mini Cooper With 2011 Holiday Rambler
First, before flat towing your 2011 Mini Cooper, be sure the tires are filled to the recommended psi and in good condition. More importantly, be certain your steering column is not locked; if your tires are unable to turn they would wear out quickly. If you think your safety cables may be an issue, and yours are shorter than 7', an option would be the Blue Ox Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables # BX88197. Another thing you could do is add an anti-rattle device such as the Blue Ox Hitch Receiver Immobilizer...

  • Solution For Attaching Safety Chains to Factory Class V Hitch on 2017 Ford F-250
We have seen this issue before with the factory Class V hitches on various model trucks, such as what is on your 2017 Ford F-250. What we recommend doing is looping safety cables like the RoadMaster # RM-910648-12 through the safety chain hooks on the hitch and then hooking the safety chains to the loops. These cables feature a weight capacity of 8,000 pounds each. We have not found a particular hook or adapter large enough to fit the safety chain loops on the factory hitch for your F-250.
