Video Transcript for Review of Redarc Redarc Battery Charger 30 Amp Fuse - RED86FR

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Redarc 30-amp mini fuse kit. This is designed to work with your Redarc BCDC 12-amp battery charger to keep your trailer's battery charged using your vehicle. So if you do have that Redarc battery charger, this is going to ensure that your setup is protected from any potential damages due to short circuits or overloads. This fuse holder is going to provide the maximum contact with your fuse to help keep any dirt or debris out of the contact points, so that you're going to have a nice secure connection.

And so, I do have this assembled currently, but if I disassemble it, you'll be able to see that in addition to our holder, we've got these two cable crimp lugs, one for each side, and then we're also going to get two of these 30-amp fuses, very easy to put together, just slide the fuse in place there. Once you have these crimped onto your cables, you can just slide those over and then tighten down your nuts.Once you have those tightened down, you can then securely close that and it will stay latched in place. With the nuts being up few threads too high right now, it's not going to close for me, but you can see how it would latch in place there. So it will be a nice secure closure to keep all that dirt and debris out of there. And then you also have that backup fuse in case that first one we're to get tripped or blown.

They do include a manual as far as getting everything installed, both as I showed you here, but also in line with your system. So you are going to have lots of guidance on how to assemble this. So if you do have that Redarc BCDC 12-amp battery charger, this is going to be a great option to add to your setup. So that's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com.

Thanks for watching.

  • Recommended Charger For Keeping Winch Battery Charged with Tow Vehicle
I have a way for your tow vehicle to keep your winch battery charged, but you won't be able to do it through the 7-way as that just doesn't offer much power, at best it will maintain an already charged battery. To charge a battery that's been used you'll need to use a DC-DC charger like the Redarc # RED96FR. This will tie into your vehicle's alternator and allow it to charge the winch battery even if it was dead as it's able to send much more power through the dedicated wiring. You'll...

The Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger Item # RED96FR will absolutely charge your 12 volt batteries on your boat trailer if wired correctly. It works with 12 and 24 volt systems and can be used with multiple types of batteries. Keep in mind the charge comes from the towing vehicle battery through the 7 pole plug. The BCDC charger disperses the charge to the auxiliary batteries on the trailer. Installing this is going to require the 23-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit Item # RED76FR, 30-Amp MIDI Fuse...

Yes, if the fuse holder/fuse isn't allowing power through to the Lippert Smart Jack Electric Trailer Jack w/ Footplate # LC643589 then you'll definitely have issues powering it. I would just replace the 30 amp fuse holder with one like the 30-Amp MIDI Fuse Kit # RED86FR if you can't find one at your local hardware store.

  • Recommended DC To DC Battery Charger To Charge The Batteries In A 2022 Vanleigh Pinecrest 335RL
Since you're only powering a refrigerator with your batteries the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # RED96FR, which is a 12 amp charger, would be more than enough to replenish what your refrigerator is using from the batteries. You will need to use a fuse holder at the trailer battery connection and vehicle battery connection. For this I recommend using either the 23 amp # RED76FR or 30 amp # RED86FR. Your trailer battery will receive a maintenance charge, but will not charge up when towing with your 2022 Honda Pilot and plugged into the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118286. So if you're okay with just a maintenance charge and not fully charging the battery when driving, then all you need is the aforementioned 7-way. You are already on the correct track. In order to install a 7-way on your 2011 Toyota Rav4 you have to have a 4-way installed first. Since you already have a 4-way you can use the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 to adapt your 4-way into a 7-way. You would still want to run the second power wire to the battery. The wire for the 4-way is only 10-amp while the 7-way wire is 40-amp and they are serving different purposes.
