The Straptek sway control kit employs ratcheting winch brackets and heavy-duty straps to lift the spring bars of your weight distribution system closer to your trailer's frame, creating enough tension in your setup to help stop sway before it begins. The durable polyester straps replace your noisy lift chains for a quieter ride. Plus, this kit simplifies the hookup process so you can hit the road faster.

Prevent Excessive Trailer Sway

The Straptek kit provides sway control for your standard weight distribution system by creating enough tension on the spring bars that they can essentially hold your trailer in line. Unlike a traditional chain-style setup, which typically has about 7-1/2" of chain length between the lift bracket and the spring bar, the Straptek system leaves only about 3" of strap length between the bracket and the bar. This dramatically limits the movement of your spring bars. When the bars are held taut and stable, they can exert more force on your trailer to effectively keep it from shifting side to side.

Ratcheting Winch Lift Brackets

The Lippert Straptek ratcheting winch brackets help achieve maximum tension on the straps

The lift brackets in the Straptek system have built-in ratcheting winches that help you easily and effectively apply tension to your spring bars using a standard 1-1/8" socket wrench (not included). Unlike traditional lift brackets, the Straptek brackets allow you to fine-tune the tension on your setup by gradually winding the strap up inside the bracket. This simple, controlled operation saves you time and energy by letting you set and adjust the tension on the spring bars without the need for you to raise the trailer with a jack and then manually apply leverage to a lift bar.

The Straptek brackets can be released just as easily - and in the same controlled fashion - as they are tightened. This controlled operation creates a much safer method of disconnecting than with traditional lift brackets, which instantly release many of pounds of pressure off the spring bars with a lift handle. Simply use a socket wrench to loosen the ratcheting brackets when you're ready to unhook your trailer.

Heavy-Duty Straps Replace Lift Chains

The heavy-duty straps in the Straptek kit take the place of the noisy, heavy chains that came with your standard weight distribution system. These straps are constructed of durable, weather-resistant polyester for long-lasting performance. And the straps come permanently attached to the brackets so that you won't have to spend time threading them during installation.

Simple Setup and Adjustment

Close up of the Lippert Straptek installed

Place the winch brackets on your trailer frame and attach the J-hooks at the end of the Straptek straps to the U-bolts on your spring bars. Make sure there is enough space within the U-bolts on your spring bars to accommodate the J-hooks which are 0.515" in diameter. Then use a 1-1/8" socket wrench to wind the straps until each spring bar is parallel to your trailer's frame. Each strap should have the same amount of tension.

The straps are adjusted by removing all slack then counting the clicks the ratchet makes on each side to have the same amount of tension on both sides. Once you have the spring bars in the correct position, adjust the brackets on the trailer so that the straps are perpendicular to the frame. Then tighten the saddle bolts to securely clamp the brackets in place.

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Lippert Straptek Sway Control Tensioner Kit for Weight Distribution Systems. This weight control kit applies tension to the spring bars of your weight distribution system to help prevent trailer sway. It's going to work with standard weight distribution systems that use lift chains. It's going to limit movement of the spring bars, that way they can exert more force on your trailer to help hold your trailer inline at all times. That's a very simple design; very easy installation. It's going to have the ratcheting winch-style brackets that are going to replace the standard lift brackets on your trailer frame. This is really going to allow you to fine tune the amount of tension on your spring bars.

The units are made from a sturdy steel construction, and everything is going to have a protective finish on it so that way, we don't have to worry about any rust or corrosion with this system. It's going to last a long time and it's going to look good for a long time. Now, these heavy-duty straps are going to replace your lift chains. They're made from a durable polyester construction for long-lasting performance, and they're going to offer quiet operation. You're not going to have any banging or clanking around like when using chains, so that's another benefit of a system like this, and it's a very safe and easy operation. One of the things I like about it is that you don't have to raise the trailer with the manual or with a jack, and you don't have to use a snap-up lever.

All you need to have is a socket wrench with a 1 and 1/8th-inch socket. I'm going to go ahead and release this a little bit. It's got the release bar right here; very easy to gain access to and to release. Once we're ready to apply tension, so this would connect to the spring bar connection point; that hook is going to have a diameter of 0.515 inches, which is pretty close to a 1/2-inch diameter. Once you have that connected, just place the socket and wrench over there.

You can tighten that up as necessary, and then when you want to make sure that you have the same tension applied to both sides, all you've got to do is pick a starting point and kind of count the clicks of the ratcheting mechanism to ensure proper tension on both sides of your trailer. Again, nice, easy installation; very simple set up, and these are simply going to clamp onto the trailer frame. No drilling required. Hardware included. I want to take a measurement of that area for you real quick. I'm going to measure inside edge to inside edge.

That's going to give us a measurement of 2 and 7/16ths of an inch, and then the length, edge to edge, is about 4.5 inches long. Nice, low-profile design. It's not going to take up much space on your trailer frame; that's really going to free up more space for those frame-mounted items or accessories such as battery boxes, tool boxes, gas tanks, generators, all that stuff. The product's made right here in the USA. Again, the diameter of that J-hook is going to measure 0.515 inches. That's going to do it for today's look at the Lippert Straptek Sway Control Tensioner Kit for Weight Distribution Systems.

I have used the Lippert Tensioner kit last season and towed about 5K miles. I have enjoyed using the straps and see no negatives, while being able to say that it is much quieter than using chains. I use these in conjunction with the Blue Ox WDH and replaced the 1500 bars with these straps. I highly recommend these straps.

Easy to install. Tried the product on the interstate today and, just as advertised, no sway and no problems when trucks passed. Very easy hookup. Overall I am very pleased!
