Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Easy no drill install. The hardest part was getting the original bolts out of the truck. Once they were off it was easy. I went with the heavy duty hitch because I will be towing a 3500lb camper with the weight distribution set up. There is a more light weight option but why limit my truck to 5000lbs, I can tow at the full 8000lb capacity with this hitch. With a trailer hitch you never know what you want to tow, why go lightweight and not have your towing capacity available.

2008 Dodge Dakota

This is my 3rd trailer hitch from etrailer.com. Great pricing, quick delivery, and the hitches they offer are well made. This hitch is for my 2008 Dodge Dakota. A little difficult to install by myself (truck's bumper was tweaked), but I succeeded, and in less than an hour.
The only minor fault I found was the decals installed by Draw-Tite. Their name as well as the weight spec decal are installed upside down. See photo. But of course, that doesn't effect the way the hitch works. I'm very happy with my purchase.

2008 Dodge Dakota

Great product, installed the receiver hitch today, took about 2 hours. Installed it by myself using a floor jack. Had watched the installation video twice. Fit was perfect on my 2008 Dodge Dakota. Best price.

2006 Dodge Dakota

I just received the hitch yesterday and have not installed it yet. It appears to be a well built product and pretty simple to install.

2013 Dodge Dakota

Short story - Great experience overall, great price, quick delivery, perfect fit for my 2005 Dakota pickup, very helpful installation vídeo. Longer story: The bumber hitch on my Dakota was listed at 2,000 lbs with 200 lbs tongue weight which wasn't enough to pull the trailer I planned to rent, so I needed a 5,000 lb receiver-style hitch. After poking around on the internet looking at various brands, specs, and suppliers, I ran short on time and decided to order from etrailer because they had the best price AND because they had helped me before via email with a question about a Thule rack. The fact that they had helped me previously even though it was clear I would not buy anything left me feeling like they were good folks. I chose to pay extra for 3-day delivery on my hitch and it showed up in only 2 days (maybe because I'm only two states away). After reviewing their installation vídeo twice (not sure whether other distributors offer this kind of vídeo), the install really was a breeze. Everything lined up perfectly and it took less than 30 minutes but I'll say it was VERY helpful that I had a second person to help lift the hitch and hold it in place until one bolt was inserted on each side. It would be very tricky to do by yourself. One of my concerns was whether I'd be able to break loose the existing mounting bolts on my 13 year old Dakota but surprisingly, they came out very easily and it was a cinch re-inserting them once the new hitch was in place and I did not need to put the truck on a jack to do the install. Last point, my 3.7Litre Dakota had a tough time pulling that heavy trailer over Hoosier Pass in Colorado at 10,000+ feet, but once I got down below 6,000 feet it had sufficient power and towed just fine. Next time I need trailer supplies I probably won't poke around too long before buying from the etrailer guys.

Nice hitch. Quick ship. Packing department needs training - no damage to hitch though.

by:
2006 Dodge Dakota

I haven't actually pulled anything with it yet... but install wasn't terrible. Took much longer than the estimated 30 mins, but that was because one of the 4 bolts didn't want to budge... took me a couple hours to finally get the bolt out. Once all 4 bolts were removed, installation was pretty straight forward.
It probably didn't help that my truck is a 2006 and I'm sure those bolts had never been touched in the past 13 years.

perfect fit fast install!!

Good quality product, perfect fit, and fast shipping!!

Purchased a can of BP Blaster penetrating spray the day after I ordered the parts. I sprayed the weld nuts several times while waiting for the parts to arrive and it seemed to help loosen them up. My order arrived on time and I installed the hitch the next morning. I installed the hitch by myself ( I'm 67 years old), and while I admit that an extra set of hands would have been very helpful, the install was easier than I anticipated. I had all the parts I needed, the instructions were easy to follow and the online video was very helpful. I purchased the hitch in order to tow a trailer with a ton of wood pellets, instead of getting 1/2 a ton at a time (the capacity of my truck). Hopefully these products will solve my problem, only time will tell.

by:

I'm sure the product will be fine once I get it installed. The box it was shipped in was made from a friable cardboard and was delivered with a gaping hole in the side. Fortunately the small parts were attached to the trailer hitch with plastic film.

by:

It fits very good and easy to install. Except the name decals are on upside down. And the hitch is slanted down in the back but not sure if it’s the hitch or the bumper needs to be adjusted up.

by:
2011 Dodge Dakota

The trailer hitch is great, fits perfectly! My only complaint is the packaging, the box didn't hold up to shipping, fortunately all the bolts and washers were taped to the hitch and were not lost

by:
2005 Dodge Dakota

This was a perfect fit for my 2005 Dodge Dakota. It was incredibly simple to install. The longest part was me getting the old rusty bolts to break free on my pickup, which has nothing to do with the hitch. This model is definitely the way to go!

by:
2010 Dodge Dakota

As advertised. Shipped fast, nice item, a little concerned when I received it since it had broken through the cardboard box, but no damage to the piece. Installed it by myself, recommend that you have at least one friend to help during the process, getting it in place (with a double jack) worked, but was time consuming. Tucks in nicely and looks good. Haven't used it yet,but plan to do so in a few weeks.

by:

Easy install, bolted right on. Came packaged well and the included instructions are foolproof, even better, there’s a video on how to install specifically for my truck. 10/10 support, shows etrailer cares about their customers and making sure you get what you need. 100% buying from here in the future. Precision fit and good finish, welds look sturdy and aren’t your average mass produced looking beads.

We live in Louisiana, it's not here in June,we took two beer breaks, one smoke break and still got it done installed in 2 hours. EXCELLENT PRODUCT!! I WOULD RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE!!!!! THANK YOU . • What is the Difference Between Max Carrying Capacity and Weight Distribution Capacity
Absolutely, I am here to help! The max carrying weight of a hitch is how much the hitch can pull if you were to just hook your trailer up to the hitch and not use a weight distribution system. The Gross Trailer Weight or GTW of this hitch is 5,000 lbs. and the Tongue Weight or TW of this hitch is 500 lbs. The GTW is how much weight the hitch can pull behind it and the tongue weight is the downward force that the tongue of the trailer applies to the hitch of the tow vehicle. So the hitch...

We have 3 hitches that will fit your 2008 Dodge Dakota. All three hitches will require you to remove your factory trailer hitch. I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75251 which has the very similar design and the same capacity ratings of the Curt hitch at a better price point. The only real difference is the manufacturer in this case.

The Draw-Tite Class III hitch you referenced, part # 75251 would work perfectly on a 2007 Dodge Dakota, it fits 2005-2011 Dakota trucks. If you'll be using the hitch for towing, you might need the following items to complete your towing set-up. Trailer wiring harness, part # 118323 (If trailer has more than 1 stop/turn/taillight per side, use a modulate like # C59236) Ball mount, part # D-4 Hitch Pin and Clip, # PC3 1-7/8 trailer ball, part # 19260 or 2 inch trailer ball, part # 63845 Locking...

  • Should a Weight Distribution Head and Ball be Tilted Forward or Backward when Towing a Trailer
The angle of the ball on a weight distribution system is different for every vehicle/trailer set up. You will want to angle the head unit with the ball on it so that the spring bars are level with the trailer frame. The trailer should be loaded and ready to tow when you set up the system to get the angles correct. It does take some fine tuning to get it just right. I have included a link to a video that should help you.

  • What Is Needed To Tow A 28 Foot Trailer With A 2005 Dodge Dakota V8 Club Cab
On a 2005 Dodge Dakota the Draw-Tite Class III 2 Inch Hitch, part # 75251, will have a 5000 lb towing weight capacity and can be increased with the addition of a weight distribution system. The towing capacity of your Dodge Dakota is listed at 7000 lbs, so the towing capacity of your vehicle (7000 lbs) is what will be the maximum weight capacity you will be able to tow with an additional weight distribution system added to your hitch. It is a Class III ball mount with a 7 inch rise with a tow rating of 12,000 lbs. This mount will be a good fit based on your coupler height with the hitch height of the Hidden Hitch and Draw-Tite trailer hitches you referenced as it will provide a level tow for your boat trailer. • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2004 Toyota 4Runner that is Compatible with Weight Distribution
You have a hitch that should not be used with the Andersen weight distribution they are installing on your trailer currently. Best option we have would be to replace it with a hitch like the Draw Tite part # 75155 which is rated for use with a weight distribution system. WD system put a different type of strain on the vehicle frame and hitch. If the hitch was not designed for this additional strain it most likely will bend or brake which could then damage the vehicle frame.
