Video Transcript for Laclede Chain Safety Chains and Cables 750-3204 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Laclede threaded quick link. This sturdy link provides a quick link for chains, cables, roaps, or straps. It's going to feature the threaded keeper right here, then it simply just screws shut. It's easy to open and close and connect and disconnect. No tools are required. If you would like to use a wrench to tighten or loosen you can do that.

A 7/16 inch wrench or 11 millimeter would work well for this unit. It's made from a steel construction, it's going to have a nice zinc coating which is going to do a great job at resisting rust and corrosion. The working load limit is engraved right here on this portion of the link. It's going to say 880 pounds. The diameter is a quarter of an inch.

If we take a measurement of the opening, simply just measuring that gap right there, it's going to measure 5/16 of an inch. I do want to point out that the threaded portion right here, is slightly larger in diameter than the actual diameter of the link. Again, the link itself is 1/4 of an inch, the threaded portion is going to be a diameter of about 5/16 of an inch. We're going to go over the internal and external measurements. Internal, the opening length, that's going to be around 1 3/4 inches. The width of the opening at the bottom of that barrel portion, that's going to be about 9/16 or 5/8, right in that area.

If we measure the flat side of that barrel, that opening's going to measure about 1/2 of an inch. External, so from very edge to very edge, we're looking at about 2 1/4 inches. Then width, edge to edge, we're looking at about 1 3/16 to 1 1/4 inch. That's going to do it for today's look at the Laclede threaded quick link.

If these had a little deeper engraving and included the break strength I would give it 5 stars! Otherwise, exactly what I was looking for. My trailer safety chains are a little long, so I wanted a way to shorten them without cutting them. A lot of quick links I found were not advised for trailers, weight bearing, etc (defeats the purpose of a rated link but lawyers I guess), so these definitely fit my needs. Safety first!

Great product. I was able to attach the chains that are on the trailer with the chains I bought to lengthen the chains.

Service was great and fast, it looks very good and it works the way I wanted it.

This the second time we have purchased these links. They work great for what we use them for and I would recommend them.

  • Compatible Quick Links, Safety Chains, and Chain Loops for Adding Safety Chains to a Trailer
I pulled the quick links and quick loop that you referenced as well as the safety chains, # 2118-605-04, that you purchased and found that the best option for you will be the 3/8 Inch Quick Link, # 6590-044-04. This quick link will fit through the safety chain links and the safety chain loop. The measurement of the opening of the quick link is 0.48 inches (31/64 inches) which is slightly larger than the 7/16 inch diameter of your chain loops (see photo). I made a short video showing that...

  • How to Disconnect Breakaway Cable from Tow Vehicle
It's going to depend on how the break away cable is connected to the vehicle. If the cable is looped through a safety chain loop on the hitch, you can unplug the cable from the breakaway switch, detach it from the safety chain loop and plug the breakaway pin back in. If a split ring or quick link like part # 750-3204 is used, disconnect the cable from the split ring or quick link. Pulling the breakaway pin to get the cable off won't hurt anything, just plug it right back in so the battery...

  • How to Determine Correctly Rated Safety Chain Links
For quick links the working load limit (WLL) is the maximum working load a link can handle, so if your ATV weighs less than 1,200 lbs you will be fine to use the links you have. As an example, the 1/4" Quick Link for Safety Chains # 750-3204 has a 880 lbs working load limit so it will be sufficient for a trailer with a load of 880 lbs.

  • Custom Safety Chain for Securing Tie Down Straps
I do have a combination of products that may work for you however, we currently do not have the product you are referring to. In order to keep your tie down straps from coming in contact with stake bed pockets on your trailer. I recommend using our 27" Long Safety Chain with 7/16" Hook, 5,000 lbs. part # 2118-605-04 in addition to the 1/4" Quick Link for Safety Chains part # 750-3204. The safety chain is 27" long but can be modified to the length you desire. The end of this chain has...

  • Safety Chain Weight Ratings and Dimensions
Safety chains or safety cables should be rated for the full loaded trailer weight. Most of the safety chains we have that are rated for your 6300-lb loaded trailer weight will have clevis or S hook connectors that are larger than 5/16-inch. Titan 5K Chain part # TCTSCG30-736-04X1 measures 36-inches from the edge of the end link to the edge of the hook, but the hook's diameter is 3/8-inches which is slightly larger than the 5/16-inch so it sounds like this would not work for you. An adjustable...

  • How Far Can the 1/4" Quick Link # 750-3204 Open
I went out into our warehouse and grabbed a # 750-3204 to measure the opening of it when fully threaded open and found that the opening measures .32 inches or 21/64 inches. This is pretty close to 5/16 of an inch, just slightly bigger. It would open far enough for a 1/4 inch diameter screw to fit through.
