Video Transcript for Hughes Autoformers Replacement Surge Module Review

Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be taking a look at these replacement surge module boards for the Hughes Autoformers Power Watchdog surge protectors. Now, these are specifically going to be for the models with the Bluetooth and the EPO or emergency power off function. So be sure that you're picking up the right ones. And if your RV or your camper experience the power surge and these are no longer working, this is the part you need to replace to get them back up and running and protecting your investment. Let's check it out.

Whether you've got the 30 amp or the 50 amp, the replacement process is gonna be the same, they just use a different board. This larger one will be for our 50 amp and the smaller one will be for the 30 amp. But again, that process is all the same. We will show it to you on our 50 amp right now. On the underside of the unit, there's gonna be eight Phillips head screws, two on each side, and two on the top and bottom.

Grab yourself a pretty small screwdriver for those and just start working your way around the box and we're getting those removed. Now with all eight screws removed, you're still not gonna be able to fully remove the lid here. There's gonna be these collars on either end where the cords come out, and you wanna loosen those up because those are still holding the two halves together. And with that out of the way, we should be able to lift up pretty easily on that. Get it all the way out of the way.

And take a look at the internals. If you recognize the little wafers, the discs there, they're gonna look pretty similar to the replacement board. Now, ours today is fine. Nothing's fried on here, but this is gonna be the process you go through to replace it. It's just one connector right here that we can pinch the tabs on and pull apart.

And another connector on the front that we can pinch these tabs on as well and pull it out. That one's gonna be in there a little bit more. There's this stuff sealing it in on the sides, but that's pretty easy to pop out to. And the replacement board will just drop in the same way. We'll start with the smaller plug on the front, right here and feel a small click with that. And then same with this larger connector on the side. And with this, there is going to be a certain direction for that plug. Two round connectors and two connectors here that are in the shape of a capital D. So just get those lined up. You'll hear it click and down inside there's the small channels that the board will slide into. So we'll get those lined up as best we can. And this does go in, up and down like that. Tuck that connector away and all the wiring out of the way as well. And we'll put the cover back on the same way we removed it just in reverse this time. The one thing I will say is this small rubber gasket, make sure that it's still seated properly all throughout, because with the lid off, ours did shift around on us a little bit. Now the 30 amp unit will open up the exact same way as the 50 amp did, same eight screws around, same collars on either end. And the surge module is located on the same side, with again, just the exact same connectors. So the replacement process is really straightforward here. That new board will drop in place just like we saw the other one did, and it'll be a direct replacement to your old one. Whether you've got the 30 amp or the 50 amp unit, it's good to know that you can keep your surge protector working. Just being able to replace that surge module and not the whole unit is great because it's gonna protect your motor home or your RV and keep you operational, even if you do get a large power surge. It's a quick and easy fix. Thanks for watching.

I bought this to have if needed, should my surge suppressor get fried while fulltime RVing. So far I have not needed to use it.

Recent purchase as a spare surge module. Will facilitate a quick replacement to get the surge protection back in service while awaiting shipment of another spare surge module.
