Video Transcript for Review of Redline Trailer Lights - LG440NP

Today we're going to take a look at the unpainted steel light guard for the 440 and 440L taillights. Now this is designed to fit the square taillight 440 or 440L. This will provided added protection around the taillight to keep it from getting broken or damaged. And it is a heavy duty steel construction. You can see it's unpainted or a raw finish. Now this does mount by using the mounting post on the light, or you could weld this onto the trailer frame. If you notice on the side it does have the cutout for the side marker light. Now if this is used on the left hand driver's side light, it will require modification to accommodate the license plate light that's usually at the bottom on the driver's side light.

Or you can use a separate light to relocate the license plate light. This is for a quantity of one light guard. A few dimensions on this, we're going to give you the outside dimensions first. So the width, outside width is 5 and 13/16ths of an inch. Outside dimension on the height is five and a quarter inches. And total depth on it is right at three inches deep.

The inside dimension on the width is right at five and a half inches. Inside height is five inches. And the depth will be the same, three inches deep. And the mounting holes that are for the studs that are on the light that will go through these holes, center to center is right at two inches. That should do it for the review on the unpainted steel light guard for the 440 and 440L taillights.

After a year of having this product on our trailer’s I believe it’s been the best purchase we made our taillights haven’t been replaced in a year they have had absolutely no damage from employees either stepping on them or drivers backing into something..

by:

Product is excellent I have actually ordered this multiple times for different trailers

by:

Well made. I sanded the welds a bit, drilled mounting holes and painted. Came out great. Very sturdy

by:

Heavier material than others so that justifies the price for me. It does not have a license plate light hole but my plate is mounted on the tailgate anyway. Just paint and mount.

My dad and I haven’t had to replace a light fixture since. I’m not even worried about my kids standing on it now. I haven’t stood on it in fear of me breaking the light studs. But I’ve used it as a foot rest.

This is a nice and sturdy protector for your tail light. There are some pros and cons...

Pros:
Sturdy. You can stand on it if bolted to your trailer frame.
Drill some holes to mount it to your homebuilt trailer, and it doubles as the tail light mounting bracket.
Has cutout for side marker light.

Cons:
Welds are a little rough. Basic blobby MIG welds. I ground mine down and rounded them off with a belt sander.
No opening for the license plate light at the bottom. I drilled 3 x 1" holes in the bottom of mine to remedy (see images). That's a lot of extra work. Too bad they don't cut a slot/hole in the bottom of this for you.

After a little cleanup and rounding the welded corners, and painting, you have a nice tail light bracket and protector.

They worked out perfect for my 1948 Converto Civilian Jeep Trailer. The Weld's are perfect for that old of a trailer, all I did was prime & paint. No more broken tail lights.Check out the Pictures. Thanks Guys ????.

by:

Very sturdy part, all welds had good penetration. Does an excellent job of protecting your lights.

by:

Was what I needed to protect the tailights from getting destroyed, perfect fit and look great with a little prep and some color, thanks a bunch!

by:

Light guard is great to protect the tail light

by:

Nice rugged construction, full welded seams. Real thick steel so it'll take the heat when welding to trailer. Best price on the net, and way more skookum than the other brands.

I ordered new LED taillights for my small utility trailer from that big box store in the sky. Got to thinking I should find a way to protect that new investment. Googled trailer taillight guards and the only logical choice were these UNPAINTED STEEL LIGHT GUARDS.
The price (even with shipping!) was very reasonable. Shipping was very fast. In fact, the paint is drying while I wait for the taillights to arrive. Now that I`ve discovered ETRAILER, all future trailer parts will be ordered from here.
The product itself is bulletproof! You could drive a truck over these without damage. Very good quality: excellent bends, smooth welds, perfect holes. The lack of paint is not a big deal. Actually gave me the opportunity to touch up all those rust spots and scratches that I would have never taken the time to do.

After a year of use, these taillight guards have done their job well. Taillights still undamaged! No trailer should be without them.

by:

Ordered these for a utility trailer to house the tail lights because they are 1/8" thick there are others that are 1/16 of an inch thick on other sites, but these are HEAVY DUTY thick steel perfect for a utility trailer that will see some abuse. Welds are good, plain steel means i can weld them on and paint any color i want.

After one year product has worked great. Being plain steel i was able to prime and paint to match the color of the trailer, Heavy duty steel, weldable, lights fit perfectly within housing. Would order again.

by:

Light guards are good... Beefy.... I have to check out lights yet as I am unsure as to grounding. No white wire. Was told just to put my white wire to either mounting post ? Had to buy lights to accommodate guards which should have a 6 inch wide version for most generic lights out there with side light. Nice folks and good availability and prices at e...

Heavy Duty as I evidently need after a few lights smashed and even a bend to one of these...but I like them...not sure of value...but I did not have take the time to construct...thanks..

by:

nice product, price a little high for a piece of unpainted steel, also needs to be a left and right side for trailers, in Texas needs opening on left to light the licence plate.
The people in sales were pleasant to talk with, product arrive as promised, nice experience, will by from them again, recommended.

I stand by my initial review. I would have to add one concern, the size of the box frame did not fit a basic standard new light unit. needs to be at least 1/4 inch larger all sides.

by:

Protects the lights.

by:

Product was of excellent quality. I bought a pair of the for my acme tow dolly to protect the taillights from debris kicked up by the tires and destroying the taillights. I modified them by having medal strips welded onto the back on either side of the already present strip on the back. I spray painted them and attached them with the screws of the back of the taillights. I used blue locktite on the screws and my problem has been solved for the last approx. 5000 miles. Past experience would have meant replacing the missing or heavily damaged lights several times! Glad I made the purchase ....problem solved!

by:

These tailight guards are a bit overkill for a light trailer. The aluminum treadplate guards that eTrailer sells for Peterson-style tailight are too flimsy. These are very heavy duty and should be welded onto heavy steel structure on the trailer or bolted with hardened steel fasteners. Heavy-duty aluminum (no rust) would be better. These have to be painted. Also , I had to cut a window for the license plate light. Should make in left and right.

by:

Shipped and delivered on time. Product was as described. Very sturdy, heavy gauge steel. Welds look good.

As it was bare metal, I then painted the parts: 1, a self-etching primer and 2, top coat of Rustoleum Black.

Overall, great protection!

All good. Thx

by:

Welded these on my firewood trailer, spray painted with rattle can after they cooled, mounted and wired the lights and have not broke a light since! Used to break at least one light every year by dropping a log on them or backing into things!

by:

I will be welding this to existing trailer. Looks like perfect fit for 440 light kit!

by:

FInally - best investment so I do not keep breaking lights. Spay painted with Rustoleum Gray -

Only thing is you need to drill a hole in the bottom to let the license plate light sign through, used drill press with big drill couple of holes.

by:

Great product; Very fast shipping, exactly two days to my door in Ontario. This is my second order from etrailer and I would highly recommend them.

Everything is perfect, no issues whatsoever. I appreciate the follow up.

I ordered roof racks for our new to us car. Once I placed the order I decided I wanted longer cross bars. I cancelled the bars on the order but couldn't figure out to add the bars I wanted. I called etrailer and was connected to Ashley. Ashley helped me to get the bars I wanted. She kept in touch, letting me know about shipment, a slight delay in the shipment and when the shipment was expected to arrive. Ashly gave my purchase a personal touch that I really appreciated.

by:

As always fast shipping. Decided to buy these because I'm always breaking a lens or the housing. If your wondering are they worth the cost, figure how many times a year you have to replace the light. If you use the trailer a lot, i'll bet a few. I'm 240 lbs and I can use it as a step without fear of breaking the light. Nice.

by:

I should have got these years ago. Those lights always get busted. These guards look darn near indestructible. I go out a while back and my LED trailer light was hanging off , I ask the grandson of he stepped on it he said yes. I screwed what was left back on. Couple days it's hanging again, I ask grandson he admits he broke it again. Wasn't much plastic left so I drilled little holes and sutured it on with wire. He says now it's got pokey things stickin out. Couple days later it's hangin again, he said the pokey things didn't even hurt his foot. We'll see how he does with these new guards .
