Video Transcript for Review of Go Power RV Solar Panel Parts - Bluetooth Dongle for MPPT Solar Charge Controller - GP94FR

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. And we're going to be taking a quick look at the Bluetooth Dongle for your Go Power MPPT Solar Controller. This allows you to use a app from Go Power to adjust your MPPT solar charger or solar controller. So it makes it pretty easy and pretty technology savvy to be able to do that allows you to Mount this somewhere that you can get the range. So especially nice for those times when you can't really mount that main unit in an area that you can get to very easily. So you can just use your phone or your tablet to make those adjustments.

Now, this does connect directly to that controller unit to give you that Bluetooth signal, and then you have to download the app on your smartphone or your tablet. Works with both Apple and Android applications, so no problems there. As far as the compatibility, we do have the specs listed on our product page here at etrailer.com. So if you have an older phone or an older operating system, you can check to see what the cutoff is for that. Now I will say they've been having some trouble with that app. A lot of customers have complained that it works great for a little while, and now it's not usable at all.

And so I would personally suggest not even going with this guy, but actually getting the remote. Which is going to be a hardwired system that connects to the unit in the exact same way, uses the same cable. It's just going to have a dedicated box where you're going to make those adjustments. They are different part numbers. The part number for this one is going to be listed there on the screen. So if you want to pick that one up instead, I would highly suggest that.

So you're just not having to mess with that Bluetooth app. Once they get this going and maybe perfect some of the bugs, we'll update you, but I would say for now, this is going to be the safer bet. It's one less thing you have to have downloaded on your phone. Which for me, is always a big thing, I always have too much music or too many podcasts to have another app that I don't really need. So that's one thing that I would definitely suggest, it's going to do the same thing for you, it's just doing it in a little bit different way.

So if you do want to go with the Bluetooth, you're just dead set on it. I'm going to give you a few measurements just so you can know the kind of compatibility that this has. So the actual little guy here measures about three and five-eighths of an inch long by about two inches tall. And it's just about three quarters of an inch thick. So pretty small mounting, it's going to be about two and a quarter inch apart for those two elongated holes. The wiring itself measures about 59 inches long. So pretty close to five feet long. So you should be able to connect that just about anywhere you need to have it in a handy spot, so you can hopefully get enough signal to your phone or your tablet wherever you are. It does have a little led to let you know, whenever it's connected, should be this little light up there at the top. So has an indicator of your connection status to make it a little bit more clear what's going on with that. Well I hope this has been helpful in deciding if this is going to be the right unit for you. Again you can find this and other accessories for your RV solar system here at etrailer.com, so check those out. Thanks for watching..

It’s still performing without fail. I just need to figure out a way to keep battery bay cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Any suggestions?

@Maria That's going to depend on where exactly you have your battery stored. If it's in a compartment on a travel trailer/5th wheel, a vent like # PLR20 would work well for you.

  • Does the Furrion 50A MPPT Solar Controller Have Battery Monitoring Display
I do have an option for you but the Furrion MPPT Solar Charge Controller part # FSCC60PWBBL does not contain any sort of battery monitor display. That said, we do have a very similar charge controller which does, the Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller part # GP54FR. In addition to the LED display on the unit, you can also view battery voltage on your smartphone using the Bluetooth Dongle part # GP94FR or on a wall mount controller using the Solar Remote part # GP34FR.

  • MPPT Solar Charge Controller Recommendations
Let's see if we can break this down some, several questions here that I am not certain I can answer completely, part of this is opinion on how to set-up and not necessarily best practice choices or hard technical/qualitative information you are asking. I have linked the page that has the MPPT controllers we carry, but to make a recommendation to you is challenging as I do not know what the charge rating is you are looking for and what expansion options you are looking at for the future....

  • Is There Advantage to Upgrading Go Power Elite Solar System to MPPT Controller
You can upgrade the GO Power Elite part # 34282184 with the MPPT controller # GP54FR and Bluetooth dongle part # GP94FR which gives ability to monitor the system from your phone. MPPT controllers do give better charging returns as the voltage of the charge increases. So if you upgraded to the MPPT you'd see a slight bump in charging speed and quality plus you'd be able to monitor it with your phone.

  • 60 Amp Solar Panel Controller Needed for Lithium Battery Bank
I would be happy to help set up your battery system in your 2021 Thor WinSport. To start out with you're going to need to replace your 10 amp go power controller because it is to small to be used with your 1000 w inverter and your three 370 watt solar panels. A 10 amp controller can only handle 200 watts of solar power. I recommend using the Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller - LCD Digital Display - 60 Amp item # GP54FR. You have over a 1,000 watt solar array so you will need the 60...

  • Recommended Solar Charge Controller For Lithium-Ion Batteries
The Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller - LCD Digital Display - 60 Amp # GP54FR works with lithium, sealed, gel, and flooded batteries. This solar charge controller protects battery from harmful overcharging and uses automatic multistage charging to extend battery life. There is an optional Bluetooth Dongle for Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller # GP94FR that will allow you to monitor solar controller settings and data from your smartphone or tablet using the Go Power Connect app.

  • Can Expansion Panels Be Added to the 200 Watt Go Power Overlander Solar Charging System
Yes, we do offer the Go Power Overlander Solar Charging System part # 34282181 as well as the Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller part # GP54FR, Go Power Overlander Expansion Kit part # 34282182, and the Bluetooth Dongle part # GP94FR. I have attached a list with selection of cables as well.

  • Can A PWM Solar Charge Controller Be Swapped Out With An MPPT Solar Charge Controller
Yes, once you start getting into the 150w to 200w or higher range MPPT solar charge controllers are up to 30% more efficient than a PWM controller. Anything under 150w you're fine to just save your money and stick with a PWM controller as you'll see no added benefits from an MPPT. Since the Go Power Weekender ISW RV Solar Charging System # 34282183 you referenced is 190w you'll see an increased efficiency in the system when used with the Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller # GP54FR....

  • Can You Add A Solar Panel To The Go Power Solar Extreme Charging System
You can use the Go Power Overlander Expansion Kit - 190 Watt Solar Panel # 34282182 to add one more solar panel to the Go Power Solar Extreme Charging System - 570 Watt Solar Panels - 3,000 Watt Inverter Charger # 34282185. And the remote you are inquiring about is the Remote for Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller # GP34FR. If you do get this I highly suggest going with the Bluetooth Dongle for Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller # GP94FR. This Bluetooth dongle lets you monitor...

  • Can a Go Power MPPT Solar Controller with Only an AGM Setting Charge Lithium Batteries
I contacted the manufacturer regarding your questions. They informed me that the MPPT 40A solar controller does only have the setting for AGM and no lithium setting. This setting is only for the solar controller and will still charge the battery, it just may not fully charge the batteries. It has no affect on the alternator charge. You can use the Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller # GP54FR if you want to be able to maximize your current lithium battery bank. You can also add the Bluetooth...

  • How Many Solar Panels Can Hook Up To 30 Amp Go Power MPPT Solar Charge Controller
The Go Power Solar Flex Eclipse Charging System with MPPT Solar Controller # GP67MR is a 30 amp controller. It will be 10 amps per panel so 3 panels would be the most you could hook up. You can get two of the # GP67MR and three additional panels # GP77MR. The other option would be to just buy the panels and use the # GP54FR which is a 60 amp controller. This is also capable of using a remote # GP34FR or Bluetooth dongle # GP94FR if you want to monitor the controller from your phone.
