The solar controller prevents harmful overcharging by adjusting the power generated by the solar panels before it reaches your batteries. It uses maximum power point tracking technology to compare solar output to battery voltage and converts that output to an optimal amperage. Typically, this type of technology is a good fit for larger systems with higher voltages.


Automatic Multistage Charging System

Using a multistage charging system, the controller automatically switches voltages while the battery bank charges. This accelerates the charge, but also helps extend battery life by adjusting the voltage during the different modes. The controller is compatible with multiple battery types and includes preset charging profiles for lithium, sealed, gel, and flooded/wet cell batteries.


Charging Modes

  1. Bulk: This mode charges at the full rated load for a quicker recharge time. As the name suggests, this is where the bulk of the charging happens. It typically charges the battery to at least 80% capacity.
  2. Absorption : This mode provides controlled voltage to ensure a full charge. Once the battery reaches between 80% to 90% capacity, the absorption state will kick in and start charging at a regulated voltage. In each charging profile, this mode is set to last for 30 minutes after the bulk charge is completed.
  3. Float : Once the battery reaches full charge, this mode maintains a lower voltage to compensate for self-discharge. This reduces battery stress and minimizes gassing and water loss.
  4. Equalization : On flooded/wet cell batteries, this mode activates to prevent stratification and sulfate buildup during extended float cycles. These two issues can damage a battery by causing the accumulation of acid at the bottom of the battery and hardened sulfate crystals on the battery plates. This mode is especially helpful when your battery is going unused during storage.

Practical, Convenient Features

This solar controller is built with parallel capability that lets you add up to 5 total 30-amp MPPT controllers to increase the maximum output of 150 amps. This is useful if you expand your solar charging system with additional panels to generate more amperage.


Additionally, the controller includes several built-in safety features to help protect your equipment. The charging process will shut down if the controller starts to overheat and when an overcurrent is detected. Also, if the battery or solar panel is wired incorrectly, it activates a reverse polarity alarm.


This solar charge controller is also compatible with modern RVC multiplexing systems. These systems simplify wiring in RVs, and allow the use of touchscreen control panels that let you control lights, slide outs, heaters, air conditioners, pumps, and more. RVC systems that allow for monitoring solar arrays can be wired to this controller to let you know the system status, eliminating the need for a dedicated mounted remote.


How it Installs

The solar controller vertically mounts to a wall near the battery compartment. It is wired to the solar panel using MC4 cables. Then, the battery bank is wired to the terminals on the controller. You can also install a fuse or circuit breaker (sold separately) up to 60 amps between the solar controller and battery for additional current protection.

This solar controller is built to charge two battery banks and has terminals for a primary and secondary battery. Your primary battery will receive the full current until it is completely charged. Then, your secondary battery will start to draw the charge current.

The optional fixed-mount remote (sold separately) lets you monitor and control the MPPT solar controller from inside your RV. This will be a practical must-have for those installing the controller in an RV without an RVC system. It shows the charging current, battery voltage, and battery state of charge. It also allows you to input your battery type and choose a charging profile. The remote also lets you use Maximum Power Boost Technology. You can simply press a button to activate Bulk mode for the highest charging voltage. This lets you quickly top off your battery bank before the end of the day by capturing as much power as possible.


It includes a Bluetooth function that lets you connect the controller to your smartphone or tablet with the free Go Power! Connect app. With this app, you can wirelessly view the same live battery information included on the display. Also, you can control your battery profile and toggle Maximum Power Boost Technology mode.

Easy to install, turned it on and away it went! Default setup is for AGM batteries, which I have. Used this to replace an other manufacturer’s mechanical solenoid non-moot solar controller in my RV. I also have a GoPower 3000 watt inverter/charger/switch for AC power from the battery bank and generator/shore power control.

no fault of etrailer.com, but instead 100% the GO Power MPPT product,
seems there is a broad range of specifications WITHIN "their PUBLISHED specifications".
the MPPT states capable of 150 voc (this is still on their pdf however it is only a SURGE rating not a REAL RATING) then their fine print states "100 voc dc" (see link below "for proof" (this is a wide range by dropping 50 voc dc) and array power limited to 1040watts (as stated on my original pdf from Go Power) at 12 vdc on before limiting occurs. So a SIX panel array of 100 watts each with a volt open of 22.5volts in series .....means 6X22.5= 135 voc.(should be good to go right)..can't do it.... so a max of 6 panels 6x22.5vdc VOC = 135 voc dc BUT can't do it ...blows the unit apart.....and needs warranty repair.....which I did....so it will not handle THEIR RATED SPECIFICATIONS! you will need to be AT 100voc on your design specs which is not stated anywhere
which states a MAXIMUM of 100 voc so that's only 4 100watt panels at 22.5 voc dc which of course is only 400 watts input power that this unit will handle... I'd challenge you to double check and triple check ALL OF YOUR PANEL specs before purchasing this unit as I've wrapped my brain around it and don't see how ANY modern PANELS will not achieve MORE POWER than this MPPT charger will handle unless your on 48V ONLY system..
to be short and simple I looked at perfectly matching 4 of these panels from reynogy for 200 watts each and guess what they have a VOC rating of 27 voc each so in series they are 108 voc so that should work due to being in a real world solution near 100 voc rating of this MPPT controller as most panels never really achieve 100% power in the real world....
Before dealing with me on tech support this MPPT controller was rated at 1040 watts ON THEIR PDF ... once I proved to them that IT WOULD NEVER ALLOW IT.... now their tech support documents state 800 watts and in reality it might be able to handle 800 watts (IF PERFECTLY MATCHED PANELS ARE INSTALLED) but I wouldn't rely on it..I changed out the controller to a victron controller and I keep this one because I can't return it and I might want to ADD portable solar panels some day which I AM SURE it will handle.
