  That is exactly what it sounds like is going on. for your situation I recommend checking the wiring on the back of the switch to make sure it's clean and has solid connections.   Everything I could find on the switch for a Dometic 9100 Power Awning is that the correct switch is the 3310455.062. While we do not carry that exact switch, it is a 4 wire design. • Can an Awning Switch Be Added Outside on a Trailer?
  There should be no issue wiring a separate switch on the outside of your trailer. However, there won't be a way to do this without hardwiring the # LC285500 into your current switch. I should also mention that this isn't typically used outside, so it is not weather proof. If you do end up mounting it outside, it should be done somewhere protected from the rain.

  I checked with the manufacturer for you, and they say that the Solera Awnings are slower when they retract. If you are sure there are 12 volts by testing with a multimeter the next thing to do is ensure the pitch arms aren't bent at all, which can cause issues. After that, they said to take a look at the ground wire before the switch, and make sure that has a good connection.
