Is Side to Side Movement of the Head of a Curt 16k Hitch Normal  

Question:

will Q20 curt head replace my curt 18k? my spherical axial bearing weak, plate moves sideways 10/15 degrees replacement parts available to repair my 5th wheel spherical axial bearing ???

I spoke to my contact at Curt and he informed me that you actually have a 16k hitch because they never made a 18k hitch and since yours has an axial bearing that would indicate that you have the 16k.

He also informed me that side to side movement of the head of the hitch is normal and is actually considered a feature of the hitch that allows it to be coupled and uncoupled on ground that isn't perfectly level. Also, it provides a smoother ride quality.

As long as you aren't overloading the hitch and aren't using it for a commercial application your hitch should be fine as-is.

Also you can't upgrade your hitch to a 20k hitch since the leg design is different.
