How to Remove Curt Q20 Head Unit that is Stuck

Question:

I have a Q20 hitch and removed the 2 pins from the head and pull up as hard as I could by hand and the top part of the hitch head would not come off. Should I use more force or should other pins or bolts that must be removed?

If you flip your Q20 5th Wheel Hitch # C16530-16021 upside down you will see that there is a pilot that extends below the bearing shaft, through a rubber grommet in a square pad. My contact at Curt said that the rubber square is holding onto that pilot which is why you are having trouble removing the head.

With the Q20 flipped over, take some WD-40 or some soapy water and spray that rubber grommet and the pilot to help loosen the connection. After applying the lubricant, flip the Q20 back over and work the head unit back and forth as well as side to side. This should loosen up the pilot from the grommet so that you can disconnect the head unit.

My contact at Curt said that this is fairly common when the hitch is first purchased but once you have removed the head once you won't have to do it again next time you remove the head unit.
