Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

E-Trailer service is the very best. O ordered 4 tires a month ago, only got two, probably due to UPS thinking strike. Called four days ago. What usually takes a week for here on friday. Thank you again E-Trailer.

Excellent tire for heavy trailers wears great and excellent on wet roads

by:

too early to give an excellent rating

by:

I received my tires very soon after placing my order. I ordered these tires as a replacement to what came on my horse trailer. I had put two of the same tires on the trailer the year before. I liked the cost and the quality of the tire. So I decided to replace the other two tires with the same, so as to have the same tires all around on the trailer. I bought them with the mindset to keep everything alike. I am more at ease when pulling the trailer knowing that I have maintained my trailer as well as keeping good tires on it as well. Too many times have I seen people on the side of the road with a blown out tire on a trailer. No problem right? I've even seen trailers unhooked sitting on the side of the road, what would I do with three horses if it were me? Certainly not leave them on the side of the road. I prefer to prevent an emergency then to cause one. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you. These tires and E-Trailer have allowed me to do so in an affordable manner. Thanks for checking in on me!

by:

You did a great job

by:

Still looking great. Went to Alaska and back as spair tires. Just getting ready to put
them on the trailer. I have purchased the other two so now the test begins. I ran the last pair 30+ thousand miles and still look good but time to change. Have great load capacity for my big 5th wheel. Thanks

by:

I bought a set of four of these tires & wheels over a period of time. Each one of the tires developed a bulge & have been replaced with a better quality of tire. The wheels are still in use.

by:

Bunny quick shipping.
Thank you!

by:

So far so good. I bought this for a heavy equipment trailer and it seems to be a good solid tire. Time will tell.

  • Needing Highest Ply-Rated 13 Inch Trailer Tires
The 13 inch tire with the highest ply rating/load rating we offer would be a 185/80-13load range D, which has a 1710 lb per tire/3420 lb per axle rating. If this would work for you, I'd recommend a Lionshead Castle Rock 185/80-13 Load Range D Radial Tire, part # LHCK105. Lionshead tires include complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your RV or trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days...

  • Tire, Rim and Valve Combination Selection for a 2002 Sundowner Tandem Axle 12,000 lb Horse Trailer
Lets start with the tires. If you selected a load range E trailer tire capable of 3,200 lbs at 95 psi, your tandem axle trailer would be properly equipped with tires rated for 12,800 lbs. There would be no reason to upgrade to a F load rating, and an F rated tire could possibly cause a rougher ride and more wear on the trailer suspension. You will need to select a properly rated tire to match the diameter of the wheel you are mounting the tire on. The load range E tire you referred to...

  • Recommended Brand of Special Trailer Tires for 5th Wheel Trailer Weighing 10,000-lbs
Since all trailer tires have to adhere to the same DOT standards the key in selecting new tires is to match the size and load range to the trailer weight. It is also important to operate the tires within their speed rating and to keep them fully-inflated to the maximum cold psi pressure noted on the tire sidewall. Overloading a tire or operating it at too high a speed both generate excess heat, and heat is a trailer tire's worst enemy. That said, I do like the Taskmaster tires we offer...

  • Recommended Tires for 28 Foot Sooner Horse Trailer To Replace Blow Out
Tires can get dry rot from temperature and weather condition changes while the trailer is not being used. If you park the trailer next to a building, and one side is exposed to more sun than the other, that can contribute to the rotting. You should be using either ST tires or LT tires as long as the LT appears at the END of the tire size. ST tires are built to handle more weight and have a thicker sidewall. You could be experiencing blowouts simply because the tires are carrying more than...

  • Recommendation for Upgrading Tires on Camper for Greater Highway Speeds and Better Capacity
Good news, we do offer some tires that are rated for highway speeds of up to 81mph. If you exceed the rating for extended periods of time it will lead to excessive heat build up and heat is the number 1 enemy of tires. The highest rated tire in the 235/80R16 size at 81mph is 3,050lbs at 80 psi With a quantity of 2 axles and 4 total tires this brings it to a tire capacity of 14,000lbs # TTWTRTM2358016E. The Karrier ST235/85R16 Trailer Tire # AM10248 could potentially fit the Dexstar Steel Spoke Trailer Wheel 16" x 6" Rim # AM20750 though it would be about 1/2 inch taller. If you have clearance around the tire for a larger size you could use it. Remember to always inflate a trailer tire to the maximum psi indicated on the tire. • Value of Changing Trailer Tire to Larger 225/75/16 Size
A larger tire size on your trailer in and of itself does not offer any advantages unless your existing tires are under-rated for their application, which would be unlikely in a stock tire. The overall diameter of a ST225/75/15 trailer tire is 28.4-inches. The larger size ST225/75/16 would have an overall diameter of 29.2-inches. • Trailer Tire Pressure Rating and Factors that Cause Tire Failure
Special trailer tires should be inflated to their maximum air pressure. The value for the maximum air pressure should be listed along with the value for the maximum load on the tire's sidewall. These values will usually designate the maximum load at a maximum psi. For example, if the tire is rated at 1,610 lbs maximum at 65 psi, the tire can carry 1,610 lbs of weight if the air pressure is at the maximum of 65 psi. At the maximum air pressure, the tires will perform and wear best, and get...

You will need to have trailer wheels and tires that meet or exceed the gross trailer weight. The system can only carry as much weight as the lowest rated component. You could then add tire # AM10295 which is rated for 3,640 pounds at 95 psi. I have included a link to our trailer tire FAQ article for you. If the trailer has 2 axles for a total...

The closest match and best option to upgrade your 7.50-16 LT bias ply tires, is going to be an ST235/85-16 radial tire, like the Kenda Karrier # AM32743B you were checking out. This tire is pre-mounted on a 16 inch diameter by 6 inch wide black mod wheel with a bolt pattern of 8 on 6-1/2 and a load range E (3,640 at 95 psi). • PSI Rating for ST205/75R14 Load Range C Trailer Tires
Trailer tires should always be inflated to the maximum psi indicated on the tire sidewall. This is because trailer tires are built with a thicker sidewall than passenger vehicle tires to handle more vertical load. If under inflated the thicker sidewall generates excessive heat and can lead to failure. The 205/75-14 load range C tires we carry they are all rated for 50 psi. The tires probably have a speed rating. There should be a letter code on the tire usually after the size of the tire....

Your tire has an overall height of 31.8 inches and a section width of 8.4 inches. The # AM10295, tire has and overall height of 31.61 inches and a section width of 9.37 inches. If the wheels you have are not rated high enough then you would have to also replace the wheels. • Does Outside Temperature Affect If Trailer Tire Gets Max PSI Figure
Yes, regardless of the temperature outside you do need to inflate trailer tires like the part # AM10295 to the max PSI listing on the sidewall. So if your tire calls for 65 as max PSI you'd need to go with that number regardless of temperature.

Four of these would have a capacity of 11,320 pounds. Please note that going to a higher capacity tire does not increase the capacity of the trailer. • Can I Tow With Tires Under Inflated
Yes, you probably need to inflate the tires to 110 psi. Check with the manufacture of the tires to be sure but most trailer tires should be inflated to their max psi. Running them at 70 psi underrates the tires so they aren't functioning at their max capacity. Tires are designed to carry a maximum amount of weight and they can't achieve that if they're under inflated. Also, the tire being under inflated causes it to wear unevenly decreasing the tire's efficiency and life span. There...
