Recommended Tires for 28 Foot Sooner Horse Trailer To Replace Blow Out
Question:
I have a 28 living quarter Sooner 3-horse trailer. Right now I have lt235 85 R16 on them with load range E, do I need to put a ST tire on the trailer? I had a blow-out yesterday. I understand temperature was very hot but after many blowouts in the past i know how important it is to have correct pressure in tires, so it had correct tire pressure. Also a man was looking at other tires on trailer and said left side tires had dry rot areas on them - what does this mean? How can one side of the trailer tire have dry rot areas and the other not and as much as this trailer is pulled how can this be?

Tires can get dry rot from temperature and weather condition changes while the trailer is not being used. If you park the trailer next to a building, and one side is exposed to more sun than the other, that can contribute to the rotting.
You should be using either ST tires or LT tires as long as the LT appears at the END of the tire size. ST tires are built to handle more weight and have a thicker sidewall. You could be experiencing blowouts simply because the tires are carrying more than what they are capable of compounded with the dry rot from sitting.
We have a tire that should work very well as a direct replacement. Part # AM10295 is an ST235/85R16 load range E, radial tire. This tire should hold up better to the rigors of carrying a live stock trailer thanks to the thicker sidewall. And with the radial construction, you should have the same ride quality as you did with the LT tires.
We do have this tire pre-mounted on wheels, so if you need a tire and wheel combo, write back with your bolt pattern and I can find the right combination for you.
