Westlake Radials

This radial ply tire from Westlake is constructed with double steel belts and double polyester cords for increased durability. A protective layer of nylon is wrapped around the steel belts to help prevent tread separation.

Westlake Standard Tread Close-Up

The standard tread on this tire has solid, continuous ribs, and there are very few sipes (or thin grooves) cut into the rubber. This tire is designed for use on trailers, so it doesn't require the level of traction that would be needed on a vehicle that is braking or steering.

Radial Tires vs. Bias Tires

Radial tire vs bias tire graphic

Radial ply tires are designed for trailers that are towed on the highway. The cords on a radial tire are positioned at a 90-degree angle to the direction of travel so that they lay across the width of the tire from wheel lip to wheel lip. This construction prevents the cords from rubbing against one another when the tire flexes, unlike the cords on a bias ply tire. As a result, radial tires have less rolling resistance and heat buildup, which leads to a longer tread life and improved steering at higher speeds.

This tire is OEM for what comes on a Columbus 5th wheel. It is not the cheap Chinese bomb that many RVer's talk about although it is made in China. I ruined my tire on a curb (rookie mistake) and wanted to match the original OEM. My 5th wheel has been in service since 2017 and these tires are doing very well. Arrived two days after I placed my order. etrailer.com to the rescue! I ordered the wheel and tire at the same time and only etrailer.com had what I needed online. Thank you etrailer!!!

Tire is holding up very well. Would definitely buy again. I am very happy after using product for a year.

by:

Replace with new Westlake as I had good luck with them on my camper before

by:

I have this tire on my spare, which I unfortunately needed last week, and looks great! I've purchased 2 more to replace the spare and another tire on my camper that is wearing. I hope they last longer than the initial tires.

two of the 3 tires have blown during trips. Changing to a much better tire.

by:

Last trip out with my fifth wheel, ran over a piece of metal in the road causing tire to go flat, luckily it happened right by entrance to the campground. Was able to air it up enough to get to my site without damaging rim. Put my spare on for my return trip to home but damage to my tire was too close to side wall to repair so I ordered west lake ST235/80R 16 from etrailer which is exactly the match that came on trailer. Tire came on time and perfect match to existing tire. I have had my fiver for 3 1/2 years and the west lakes seem to be holding up fine in regards to the wear. Price from etrailer was lower than any other place I checked and manufacture date stamped on tire was recent so I got a new tire instead of one that had been sitting in a wharehouse for awhile. This is the 2nd tire I have purchased from etrailer and completely satisfied with both purchases. First purchase was same tire with wheel so I had an extra spare for long trips just in case. Would recommend etrailer for prices and expert technical assistance. Happy camping.

by:

I am very happy I ordered 235-80-16 E tire received it without any problem don't have it on yet will install it on 5th wheel camper trailer. thank you

by:

These are the tires that came on the Cimarron gooseneck horse trailer that I ordered from the factory. They perform well and are durable. One of them got a puncture in the tread close to the sidewall and couldn't be plugged so I ordered a new tire to replace it and match the others still on my trailer.

by:

Had a blow out with Westlake E rated tires on my 5th wheel. Replaced all 6 with G rated tire. No problems since Replaced.

by:

Tires are holding up been to Oklahoma and all over Louisiana. Thanks

by:

would give 5 stars only had it about a year, so far it has performed as expected time will tell .
Has held up well on my 5th wheel

by:

As always I found exactly what I need on etrailer quickly and easily. Thank you for a very user-friendly web site. I got what I ordered and it arrived one day ahead of schedule. I can't say much about the tire until I put some miles on it. I think NM Hway 285 south of Carlsbad is what spelled doom for the one I'm replacing so we shall see.

by:

i transport cars with my trailer i got about 70,000 miles on these tires be for replacing them

by:

It took over 40 minutes to get someone to answer phone and take my order
Once the agent answered I could not ask for better service. She was very helpful and knowledgeable. I was traveling and in a very bad situation and could not move my camper until i received my order. She expidited my order as she promised and I was able to get back on the road to home!!
BRAVO etrailer!!!

by:

I really don’t have a review on product since I just received it today and have yet to mount, but as far as etrailer goes it was fast shipping. I hope to have better luck with this tire than the west lake tire that blew out on me.

by:

This is the third time that I bought these tires from E trailer and never had any problems with them. Free shipping and had the tires within a week. Great way to buy tires.

by:

Shipping was extremely fast, good follow-up customer service, the tires look great and had a great review, I have 6 of these on a 44 ft. Gooseneck, time to get some miles in and see how they do!

by:

Thanks for getting my order out and letting me know it had arrived at my home....very happy with the tire you sent me for my camper just what I ordered it got faster than it was supposed to.....we'll be ordering from etrailer again.. highly recommend them......

by:

by:

Very. Knowledgeable

by:

It’s a good well made tire with a good price. It is the same tire that came on my Grand Design 303RLS had to get new tire due screw through sidewall.

by:

Had a screw in a tire after vacation so needed a replacement. Was pleased to find exact match at Etrailer, as always, fast shipment and great price. Thanks!

by:

Great tire matches the ones that came with our new travel trailer.

by:

We have always had good luck with the items we have needed from etrailer

by:

No issue with tires

by:

It seems to be holding up just fine

by:

We received our product quickly, and in excellent condition. There were some issues getting the order submitted, but Leeza was invaluable in finding a remedy. Thanks, Leeza!

  • Shorter Replacement for 235/85-16 Trailer Tire
We do have trailer tires that are slightly shorter than your current LT (or light truck) tire which is size 235/85R16. Those tires, such as the Westlake ST235/85R16 Radial Trailer Tire # LHWL410 measure 31.7 inches in diameter when inflated. They have a 4,400 lb capacity, and I imagine your trailer is a tandem axle so we have an option that will work for you. I recommend a ST235/80-16 trailer tire with a load range E rating. This will give you a tire that measures about an inch less in...

  • Recommendation for a 235/80-16 Trailer Tire for a 5th Wheel Trailer
I recommend Westlake trailer tire # LHWL401. This is a 235/80-16 radial tire, load range E, rated for 3,520 pounds at 80 psi. What sets this tire apart from others is the warranty and additional perks. It has a 5-year warranty AND complimentary roadside assistance for 2 years. If your trailer has a flat tire, call the help line and a technician will come change the flat for you. You can call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year from anywhere in the United States, Canada, or...

For your replacement tires, I recommend the Provider ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # TTWTRTM2358016E. These tires are rated for up to 3,520 lbs at 80 psi and speeds up to 81 mph. They have automotive grade sipes for great traction on wet roads and tread depth bars like vehicle tires to indicate tread wear. They come with a two-year warranty. Another great option is the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # LHWL401 which is only rated for speeds up...

  • 235/80R16 Trailer Tire vs 235/85R16 Light Truck Tire
You never want to change out trailer tires for passenger vehicle tires. Trailer tires have a more rigid sidewall which helps to accommodate heavy loads and keep the tires running cooler. Passenger tires, like Light Truck tires, have a more flexible sidewall which helps to provide a more comfy ride but do not perform like trailer tires do on a trailer. I recommend going with the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # LHWL401 since you sound like you are having trouble with blowouts....

Taskmaster tires are made in China as are almost all trailer tires from any manufacturer. Taskmaster Components is the manufacturing company and they are headquartered in Texas. Special Trailer (ST) are made differently than Light Truck (LT) tires, and need to be maintained differently so that may be the issue at hand. Trailer tires are designed to be run at max psi listed on the tire at all times and should be filled to that psi when cold (prior to a trip). They are designed to hold...

  • Minimum Load Range for Trailer Tire Size 235/80-16 on Tandem Trailer
You'd need a tire capacity of 3,500 per tire on a tandem axle trailer that weighs 14,000 lbs. So for the tire size of 235/80-16 we have the Provider Load Range G part # PRG80235 which has a weight capacity of 4,080 lbs at 110 psi. The absolute bare minimum Load Range you'd want would be an E range like the part # LHWL401 which has a capacity of 3,520 lbs at 80 psi.

The best way to prevent trailer tires from running hot is to not exceed their speed rating and to keep them inflated to their max psi rating. This tire has a capacity of 3,520-lb max load at 80 psi, a speed rating of 75 mph (most are only 65) and comes with a 2 year roadside assistance program as well. This is a Load Range E as well. • Can 235/80-16 Tires Replace 255/80-16 Tires On Jayco Talon 403T Toy Hauler
As long as the tires have a high enough capacity you can switch to the smaller tire on your Jayco Talon 403T. A tire like the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # LHWL401 has a maximum load of 3,520 lbs at 80 psi. Your current tires are approximately 1" wider and 2" taller by comparison, so tire clearance isn't a problem. Keep in mind, this will lower your trailer about 1" with the shorter tires.

  • Will Upgrading to 17.5" Trailer Wheels Increase Ride Height
No, switching from a 16" wheel to a 17.5" wheel will not increase ride height. This really comes down to size as there are different size tires for each of these wheel options. If we take the largest tire size we offer for each, 235/85-16 like Karrier part # AM10501 and 215/75-17.5 like Provider part # TTWP15175, the 235/85 measures 31.6" diameter and the 215/75 measures 30.2" so you'll actually be losing about .7" in height. In regards to Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire part # LHWL401 (Load Range E), you will need to fill them to the max psi listed on the sidewall while cold which for this particular tire is 80 psi. If there is a different max cold psi listed on the sidewall then that is what you will need to fill the tires to, no exceptions. If you have increased load ranges, this will like create a harsher ride but you'll still need to fill them to the psi listed on the tire.

  • Possible Replacements for 5.75 x 15 and 8.75 x 16 Trailer Tires for Boat Trailer
The LT on your tires stands for "Light Truck" and while there aren't any specific replacements for 5.75 x 15 tires, what that size means is you have 15 inch diameter wheels and tires that are 5.75 inches wide. The closest we offer to that size is a 205/75-15, which is for 15 inch diameter wheels and are 8 inches wide. You may need new wheels as well because these tires are designed to fit 15" x 5", 15" x 5-1/2", 15" x 6", and 15" x 6-1/2" wheels. The option we have with the highest load...

So you will be getting a stiffer tire that will just make the ride quality rougher as the heavier ply tires will be more subject to bounce than deflect when compressed. For tires like the Westlake ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range E # LHWL401 that have an 80 psi max like your tires, you are correct that when you inflate them to max cold the friction and warming of the tires will increase that pressure. The tires are made with this in mind and are rated for such increases. Your tires will go above that 80 psi on highway driving and more so on a hot day. You do not need to be concerned about that increased tire pressure.
