Trailer Tires and Wheels for a 6,700 Pound Trailer

Question:

If my trailer weight is 6700lbs would the wheel be ok? Because its capacity with 2 wheels combined is less than 6700lbs But I think the tire would be ok If not do u have wheels with 6 lugs that could support the weight?

Expert Reply:

To reach a capacity of 6,700 pounds you would need to go with a 16x6.5 Aluminum wheel like # AM22658HWTB. This wheel has a capacity of 3,580 pounds. You will need to have trailer wheels and tires that meet or exceed the gross trailer weight. The system can only carry as much weight as the lowest rated component.

You could then add tire # AM10295 which is rated for 3,640 pounds at 95 psi. I have included a link to our trailer tire FAQ article for you.

If the trailer has 2 axles for a total of 4 tires then you could go with a steel wheel and tire combo like you have referenced.
