Troubleshooting 7-Way Connector of 2006 Toyota Sequoia With No 12-Volt Feed at 7-Way
Question:
I want to charge batteries on my utility trailer that is used for a job trailer. I have checked the wiring of the plug and there is not a pole that has Aux. power to it. In fact the 12 v. hot pole is not powered up either. Do these vehicles have Aux. power at the rear of the vehicle standard? If they do, where would it be located, and how would I go about finding it?

If your 7-way on your Sequoia was installed at the factory, the 12-volt circuit should be active. Check the fuse box under the hood for a blown or missing fuse. If there's no blown fuse, you trace the 12-volt circuit from the rear of the vehicle looking for a loose connection, but abandoning the original and installing your own circuit as described below might be the simplest course of action.
If the 7-way was installed aftermarket, check the terminal for the 12-volt pin at the rear of the 7-way. If it doesn't have a wire connected to it, you'll need to run one to the positive battery terminal. Use a length of 10 gauge wire, part # 10-1-1, and run it under the vehicle to the engine compartment. Be sure to avoid anything moving like suspension or steering components and anything hot like the exhaust system. Install a 40 amp circuit breaker near the battery, the firewall or inner fender usually works well. Attach a ring terminal like part # 44-5310A on the end of the wire, and connect it to the silver post of the breaker. Cut another length of wire long enough to reach the battery from the breaker. On one end, attach another # 44-5310A ring terminal and attach it to the copper post of the breaker, on the other end, attach a # 44-5356A ring terminal and connect it to the positive battery terminal.
Keep in mind, the 12-volt accessory circuit from the 7-way doesn't have enough grunt to recharge a dead battery. It can maintain a battery, but not charge one that's become depleted. To charge the battery, you'll need a charger like part # CTEK56353 and shore power.
