What Wire Gauge Needed for 12V Trailer Power Feed

Question:

On this video: http://www.etrailer.com/tv-install-trailer-wiring-2012-chevrolet-equinox-37185.aspx ...... it says you can use the part# 12-1-1 wire for wiring the 12V black wire for charging trailer battery. But then the rest of the videos they are instructing to use the part# 10-1-1 to connect it to the + terminal of the battery of tow vehicle. Which one is right?

Expert Reply:

A 12V trailer power circuit will typically be wired with 12-gauge wire, part # 12-1-1, but certainly there is no harm in using heavier 10-gauge wire # 10-1-1. If one tow vehicle is longer than another, our installers may opt to use the heavier gauge wiring than they would for a physically shorter vehicle. When in doubt you can always use 10-gauge.
