Recommended Parts For Carrying 4 Bikes and Camping Gear With a 2023 Honda HR-V

Question:

The tongue weight limit seems a little low to carry a bike rack and bikes. A rack will weigh about 35-40 lbs and adult bikes weigh about the same. So a rack and 2 bikes pretty much take the whole limit. I am trying to get a rack for 2 adult bikes and 2 kids bikes. And to possibly hold some camping gear as well. Are there any other good hitch options for 2023 HR-V with a higher weight limit? Maybe around 300-400lbs.

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT57YR is our highest capacity receiver for your 2023 Honda HR-V. This receiver has a maximum tongue weight rating of 300lbs but be sure to verify you do not exceed any weight capacities given by Honda. I recommend pairing this with the Yakima RidgeBack Bike Rack # Y02458 to keep the weight down. This carrier weighs 35lbs and can support 4 bikes up to 40lbs each. You may need an Adapter Bar # Y02531 for any of your bikes with an alternative style frame.

I recommend installing a Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C44NR when you install the receiver. This will allow you to put Auxiliary Lights # C53201 behind your bikes as the bikes will likely impair the view of your tail lights for other drivers on the road.

For carrying additional camping gear you should consider adding a roof rack so you can carry a Yakima SkyBox # Y07334. This will allow you to carry additional gear on the roof so you can still have your bikes on the back of the car. The Yakima CoreBar Crossbars # Y00421 will install with the Towers # Y28TR and Fit Kits # Y06159 and # Y06181.

With all the components of the rack, roof box and bike rack being Yakima you can use the Yakima Same Key System # Y07208 to key all the components alike so they just use the one key versus having separate key for everything.
