How to Activate Trailer Tow Wiring Tow Package 2020 Toyota Highlander
Question:
Our vehicle has the plug, left rear of vehicle. Before we purchased the TK74 FR wiring harness, we checked for tail light power on the factory wiring plug, no tail light power to the plug. Do I not have the correct plug, or is there a fuse missing? Talked to the Toyota dealer, and they say, based on the VIN number of our vehicle, it does not come with a tow wiring package. Is this a dead plug?

Typically, a vehicle manufacturer wouldn't have the plug there if it couldn't be made to work.
I wasn't able to find a fuse diagram online for the 2020 Highlander (nor do they provide one in the online copy of the owner's manual I saw), but the previous gen has a 'Towing' fuse in the main box in the engine compartment that activates the tow package. The lid of the fuse box should have a label showing which fuses protect which circuits. All you'll need to do is install a fuse in that location and the connector you found under the vehicle should power up for you.
