Kuat NV 2.0 vs Kuat Sherpa 2.0 2-Bike Rack For 2 Inch Hitch & Is One Easier to Install

Question:

I watched the video of the Sherpa on the 2022 Odyssey, and saw how the trunk opened with the tilt. I have the Honda hitch and wondering if you know if I should get the same amount of clearance if I get the Sherpa or NV 2.0? I didn't see any video on how difficult the are to install. I plan on taking putting the rack on the van 3 times a week, and removing it in between. Is there any rack that is easier to install than others? Looking for at least 2 bikes, Tires are less than 3 inches and weight of the bikes isn't a concern. Any tips for storing the rack inside the garage between use?

The Kuat Sherpa 2.0 and NV 2.0 are awesome racks so you made really nice choices, and as far as the OEM hitch on your 2022 Odyssey, the clearance is going to be the same with these racks. For overall ease of installation, the way both racks install is exactly the same - you just insert the rack into your hitch, turn the knob at the front of the rack, put the locking hitch pin in and you're done.

The biggest difference in the ease of installation is going to be that the Sherpa 2.0 is lighter than then NV 2.0, which will make it a bit easier to handle as you get it to and from your Odyssey; here are the weights of the racks, along with their part numbers for the colors available:

Sherpa 2.0: 32 lbs
- Gray: Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack # SH22G

- Black: Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack # SH22B

- Pearl: Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack # SH22P

NV 2.0: 52 lbs
- Gray: Kuat NV 2.0 Bike Rack # NV22G

- Black: Kuat NV 2.0 Bike Rack # NV22B

The other differences are that the NV 2.0 comes with a cable lock for the bikes integrated right into the rack, while the Sherpa 2.0 also comes with a cable lock, but not in the rack; you'd have to store it. Also, the NV 2.0 comes with an integrated bike repair stand, which can be really nice if you need to prop your bike up. Finally, the NV 2.0 has a 60 lb per-bike capacity compared to 40 lbs per-bike for the Sherpa 2.0, which sounds like it doesn't matter for your application but wanted to mention just to be thorough.

So for your application, since you do not need the heavier capacity of the NV 2.0, and because you'll be taking it on and off your vehicle regularly, the better option is going to be the Sherpa 2.0. Then as far as storing it in your garage, the rack does fold up, but there is also a storage dock you can use if you like. The dock gets screwed into a stud in your garage wall with the included hardware, and you insert it directly in like you would a trailer hitch. For this you would use the Kuat RackDock Garage Bike Rack Docking Station - Orange # KU34FR or Black # KU54FR.
