Wiring The Blue wire on 4-pole to 5-pole Adapter
Question:
Is the only use of the blue wire on this adapter for backup lights? If so, can it not be connected when just trailering down the road in forward movement with no issues?

Expert Reply:
The blue wire on the Trailer Wiring Adapter 4-pole to 5-pole is normally used for boat trailer connections where the trailer surge brakes need to be locked out. The blue wire is connected to the vehicles backup light circuit so that when the vehicle is shifted into reverse the surge brake coupler will not activate the trailer brakes when backing up. This adapter, blue wire included, is meant to be connected at all times when towing the trailer.
The blue wire could be connected to another circuit if needed but the wire gauge is not large enough for connecting to 12 volt accessory power for charging trailer batteries or powering 12 volt trailer accessories, 10 guage wire is recommended for this. If connection to another circuit is desired a circuit breaker, item # 9506P, is recommended.
