Parts Needed to Tow Trailer With Brakes Using 1992 Dodge D250

Question:

Hi. I have a 92 Dodge D250 that Im looking to instal trailer light wiring and electric trailer brake controller. The truck has no factory or aftermarket trailer wiring in it at all. I have a variety of trailers that I use. One has the flat 4 pin connector, and my dump trailer and car trailer have the 7 pin connector. The dump and car trailer have electric brakes. Can you help me out with everything that I would need to get the truck setup? Thank you.

The first thing you will need for your 1999 D250 is a 4-way. The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness # C55317 plugs into the connection points behind your rear bumper and will allow you to power your trailer's signal lights. Once the 4-way is installed, you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7.

This kit comes with the adapter, wiring, breakers, and everything else required to upgrade your 4-way to a 7-way. The connector has a separate 4-way next to the 7-way so you will be able to plug in both of your trailers without an additional adapter.

For a brake controller I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty # RED24FR. The Liberty is reliable and takes up virtually no space in the cab. The main unit installs behind the dash so only the control knob is visible. The # RED69FR will also be required for installation. If you're looking for something at a lower price point then the Voyager # 39510 would also do the job along with the # 20127.

I have attached some installation videos below for your reference.
