Troubleshooting Hopkins Tail Light Converter Not Getting 12 Volts Power on the Vehicle Side 4-Way

Question:

Hi, I installed the Hopkins 4 pin connector as per instructions in your video. Im only getting 5 volts at the vehicle side of the connector for the turn signals and brake lights. Both work with the headlights off but with the headlights on the turn signals and brake lights are too dim to be seen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recommend checking the ground connection on the Hopkins Tail Light Converter Kit # HM48925 as it may not be making sufficient contact with a suitable ground connection. To ensure it is not the ground connection you can run a temporary jumper wire to the battery negative terminal and retest your voltage. This would also explain why the lights are even dimmer when the headlights are on.

Be sure to check the voltage going into the converter to ensure that you are getting 12 volts from your 2005 Honda Element as there may be something on the vehicle side as well.
