Comparing Titan Titan BrakeRite I and Titan BrakeRite II Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Kit
Question:
Hi, I’m considering upgrading to disc brakes on my 28 foot tandem axle travel trailer, that weighs about 5,000# dry. I would like to go with EOH actuator, specifically Titan’s BrakeRite Plug and Play system, but I’m concerned about the reviews of the product I’ve seen on websites other than e-trailer.com, which has 9 good reviews. I see that this unit is version 1, vs versions 2 or 3 I have seen elsewhere. I’m wondering if you can tell me what version had all the bad circuit board problems, if not all versions, and whether they have since fixed that problem. What is the difference between the version 1 you have for sale and versions 2 and 3 of Titan’s BrakeRite? Are versions 2 and 3 for different applications, or are they improvements over version 1? I’m trying to ensure that I’m buying the latest and greatest version that doesn’t have the board issues I have read about. What is “severe duty” and do it need it to safety tow a 5,000 lb travel trailer? Perhaps the BrakeRite and HydraStar systems aren’t even the best for my application? It’s a 1984 trailer being pulled by a 1998 Suburban. Appreciate your help! Thanks!

The real difference between the Titan BrakeRite I Plug and Play Electric-Hydraulic Actuator Kit # T4813102 and the Titan BrakeRite II is with the control module. The BrakeRite II has it as a sperate, self-contained control module instead of including it all in the main unit. As for bad reviews, we have not received any reports of problems with the circuit board for either. I was unable to find the version 3 that you referenced.
The # T4813102 will work well for your 5,000 lb travel trailer. The severe duty model is discontinued and would have given you no advantage. Unlike a surge brake actuator, it is your brake controller that will handle the braking power so it does not need a specific weight rating based on your trailer.
