Troubleshooting Brake Rite EOH Pushing Brake Fluid Out of Filler Caps

Question:

I have a 2008 model Titan EOH brake module on my boat trailer. I have been fighting with this since I bought the trailer new/never titled in 2013. I bought the adapter module to work with my 2015 Chevy 2500 in cab brake controller, bled the brakes on the trailer. I removed the excess fluid from the bleeding process. Utilizing the override slide on the factory controller it will not lock the brakes even with the gain set at 10. I also have brake fluid coming out the filler caps of the module when either the brake pedal is pushed or the override slides are activated. Could there possibly be an issue with the pump? Please advise. Thanks

It sounds like your Titan EOH # T4813102 is communicating well with your truck but there is a leak. The leak out the filler cap indicates that there is a blockage somewhere in your system. When filled correctly and utilized the brake fluid would be pushed from the master cylinder to the brake assemblies. It appears that since brake fluid is expelled every time the master cylinder plunger is activated that there is another part of your system not moving correctly like a caliper piston not extending on your disc brake system or there is a blockage in the brake line itself. The pump would not be the issue. It could be the master cylinder, but the pump is working fine.

My recommendation is to test each caliper to see if the piston is moving correctly. You have then isolated the issue to the caliper or that specific brake line.

The brakes not locking up is because you have that fluid leak. There is not enough pressure due to that leak. Another possible issue is using the incorrect actuator for your system. If you have a drum brake system on disc brakes or a disc brake system on drum brakes, it will not work properly.
