What All Is Needed to Add Brakes to My Pacific Boat Trailer?

Question:

I’d like to add brakes to my 3500 lbs Pacific BOAT trailer. I’ve attached some photos of the wheels. Here are the part numbers I have picked out. Will they work? The tow vehicle is a 2019 GMX Yukon XL with tow package. Can you recommend an electrical cable for the trailer? What else am I missing? Adding electric brakes to your Pacific Boat Trailer is definitely a good idea and you do have most of the parts needed, but there are a couple other parts I recommend.

On the vehicle side, with your 2019 GMC Yukon XL having the tow package definitely makes installing the Curt # C24VV brake controller a lot quicker and easier. Though you will need to find an easy to reach place to mount it, the # C51451 pigtail will plug directly into a port under your dash.

The trailer side will require more parts to complete the set up, but not overly so. From the pictures provided, you do already have the mounting brackets for the brakes to attach to and the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies # 23-468-469 will bolt directly to them.

The pictures also show a rubber plug on the center cap which will mean you have E-Z Lube style spindles, so I suggest going with the etrailer Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K. This will have the same style caps and allow access to the grease fittings on the spindles. I do suggest double checking your inner and outer bearings, however, as this will use the # L68149 and # L44649 bearings respectively.

To get the brakes working, I recommend using the etrailer.com Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit w/ Junction Box # HS381-9000. This will make getting everything connected a lot easier. The Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit w/ Built-In Charger # 20099 will also wire directly to the # e99011. Breakaway systems are required in most states and this will be a very good option.
