Can 10 x 2-1/4 Inch Electric Trailer Brakes be Used in Place of 10 x 1-1/2 Inch Brakes
Question:
Will these 10x2.25 assemblies interchange with 10x1.5 assemblies on Dexter 3000 pound axles on my 2010 Passport travel trailer? The 10x1.5 shoes seemed to wear out prematurely. Thanks

You will need to measure the width of the inside of the drum where the pad makes contact with the drum to determine if you can go to the wider 10 x 2-1/4 inch assemblies. If you cannot then you would also need to change out the hub and drum. To do that I would need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers stamped into the metal of the bearings.
If the hub is wide enough then you can use the 10 x 2-1/4 inch assemblies # 23-27 for the right side and # 23-26 for the left.
It is also possible that the brakes you have are adjusted more aggressively than they need to be. To determine if the brakes are properly adjusted, turn the hub in the direction of travel. You should be able to turn it, if you cannot then the brakes are too tight. If you can turn the hub you want to be able to hear a slight but constant dragging of the pad on the drum.
I have linked a video showing the adjustment process. fast forward to the 4:40 minute mark to see the adjustment process.
