Question:
Hello. I am looking for a brake assembly for a Dexter axle. It has the smaller with pads. The numbers on the center axle plate are Dex # 1701570 Order # 384732-2291636 HF-85 00 SC = 68 50 Is it possible to get a new drum to fit 2 1/2 pad assembly on this axle ?

I do have an option that will give you larger brakes but I called my contact at Dexter Axle and they told me that there would be no way for you to upgrade the brakes on your existing axle (part 1701570). This has to do with both the brake mounting flange and the bearing numbers.
The only option I have for you to upgrade brakes would be to replace the axle with our Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System part # A35RS545E. They are certainly not a cost effective solution but they will provide you with larger 10" x 2-1/4" brakes in addition to rubber springs that will do a better job of absorbing road shock and supporting the trailer's load than the leaf springs you have now.
I have attached a review video on the above system for you as well.
