Availability Of Hitch Extender Compatible With Trailer Hitch Receiver For 2020 Ford Fusion
Question:
Hi, I have a 4foot x 8foot lightweight aluminum trailer and want to get a hitch for a new Ford Fusion 2020. I want to haul my 17 ft. canoe, possibly two canoes, one being 18 ft. The trailer has a 1-7/8inch coupler and a 5 ft tongue. The 17 ft canoe will hang over the 8 ft length 4.5 ft front and back when centered. This makes it a bit tight against the vehicle when turning/angling the trailer. Is there a trailer hitch mount long enough to clear the canoe? Can I get a class 3 hitch that has more options for this problem? Towing weight/tongue weight is minimal.

There is a Class III Hitch available for your new 2020 Ford Fusion, the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver # 306-X7239.
This hitch has a 525lb tongue weight rating and a 3500lb trailer weight rating so it will have a plenty high rating for your light weight 4' x 8' trailer, though you will want to check the towing section of your owner's manual to find your vehicles towing capacity and use the lower rating between the vehicle and hitch.
With this receiver you would be able to use Draw-Tite Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 18" Long # HE18 which will add 18" in length but will reduce your tongue weight rating to 260lbs and the trailer weight rating to 1750lbs. Using this in conjunction with the Extra Long Ball Mount # EA40 would give you an additional 32-5/8" from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball mount hole.
If this is not enough length, you would be better off not using a hitch extender or extra-long ball mount and using the Fulton Fold-away Coupler # FHDPW330300 if your trailer has a 3" x 3" tongue, or # FHDPB340301 if you have a 3" x4" tongue. This will allow you to lengthen your tongue to get the additional clearance you need.
Lastly to finish off your towing package you will also need a vehicle wiring harness # 118574 to power the lights on the trailer.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
