How To Use 7 Way RV Connector To Power Lights And Charge Battery On Towed Vehicle

Question:

Ill be towing my vehicle behind an RV for a few months on a one-time journey my vehicle will not be a full-time or long-term TOAD. Id prefer not to splice into the vehicle wiring if I can help it. My question is this: Can I use a set of magnetic tail lights while ALSO adding a battery charge kit? The RV has a 7-pin socket in the back. Im just curious how all of that could be wired from the single 7-pin outlet. Or, would I have to run a battery charge line directly from the battery to a new outlet just for that purpose? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I highly recommend installing Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow Adapter # HM48470. This replaces your RV's 7 way and gives you a 7 way AND 4 way flat connection. Then you can hook upMagnetic Tow Lights - Red LEDs - 4-Way Flat Connectors - 20' Long Harness # PE26UR directly to the 4 way flat provided on the adapter. These tow lights have a 20 foot long wiring harness; use 48" Long 4-Pole # HM47115 if you need 4 more feet of wiring.

For the charge line going to the towed vehicle's battery, you will need to connect Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25 to the battery, then connect the other end to Pollak 6-Pole Round Pin # PK12720. The Pollak plug has a boot that will slide off and reveal the pins that you can connect wires to. Connect the charge line kit # RM-156-25 to the Pollak plug pin that is in the 10 O'clock position; this is for 12v power. Mount the Pollak connector on the front bumper of your vehicle. Now you can use Hopkins Endurance Flex-Coil Trailer Connector Adapter w/ Nite-Glow - 7-Way to 6-Pole - 8' Long # HM47053 to connect your RV 7 way to the Pollak 6-Pole Round Pin Connector.

This is the best method for using your RV 7 way connector to power the towed vehicle's lights and charge the battery.

I have attached demonstration videos for these products.
