Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 1992 Geo Tracker Behind a Motor Home
Question:
I would like to know what components I will need to tow my 1992 Geo Tracker 2 door/2 wheel drive using a Roadmaster Falcon 2 towbar that I have. I am also wondering at what speed this towbar is rated for. I m 100 new to this type of towing and am pretty much clueless! Thank you!

I will be happy to help you out with your flat towing needs. The first thing you are going to want to do is consult the owners manual for your 1992 Geo Tracker. There should be information in the towing section or look for recreational towing in the index for more information on the specific procedure for your Tracker. The tow bar does not have a speed rating but the vehicle might.
There are 5 items that will be needed to flat tow a vehicle: base plates, tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.
Since you have a Flacon 2 tow bar you will need some Roadmaster base plates. You can use # 118-1 which are fixed base plates which means they will always be present and visible at the front of the vehicle. Or you can use # 118-3 that has removable arms so that when they are removed the rest of the base plates would be nearly invisible.
If you do not already have safety cables you will need some. I recommend # RM-643. The coiled design helps keep the cables off of the ground.
For lighting I recommend the magnetic light kit, # RM-2120, that you can use with tow light partners # TLP01 at the widows of the Tracker since it has a soft top.
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the easiest systems to set up and use is the Even Brake proportional system # RM-9400. It will apply the Tracker brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the easiest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
Be sure to consult your vehicle owners manual for specific information on flat towing the vehicle. I have also included some helpful links to our series of help articles on flat towing for you.
