Can 7-Way 12 Volt Accessory Circuit Charge Lithium Trailer Battery

Question:

We are getting a small trailer, and will have a 100Ah lithium iron battery for house battery. Will be running a Dometic fridge in trailer which may draw 2Ah. Will the 7pin aux power from the TV be sufficient to run the fridge while driving to campsite, preserving battery for later? Being a Lithium battery, will it be able to charge more quickly/to capacity over the standard 7pin connection from tow vehicle? Considering getting a Redarc DC/DC, but wary of running additional ignition and power wires from battery on 2015 Acadia with battery in backseat passenger footwell.

Expert Reply:

Lithium batteries require a higher voltage to charge than standard batteries which means you can't charge one directly from the 7-way 12 volt accessory circuit you mentioned. You could if you used the Redarc In-Vehicle BCDC Battery Charger # 331-BCDC1225D which is compatible with lithium batteries though.
