What Is Needed To Tow a Trailer With Trailer Brakes With a 2010 Nissan Rogue

Will I need a electric brake for a trailer? I have a 2010 Nissan Rouge. I will also need a hitch. Do you have electric brakes

I was able to find the owner's manual for your 2010 Nissan Rogue and it states that if a trailer is over 1000lbs it will need to have trailer brakes. The maximum towing capacity is 1500lbs if you have manual mode, and 1000lbs if you do not.
For your vehicle I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98846 which has a tough matte black finish to match the trim of your vehicle, and resists scratches and chips. I included an installation video of the etrailer # e98846 for you to take a look at.
The most common trailer connector for trailer brakes is a 7-way connector. To install a 7-way connector you will first need to install a 4-way connector like the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118480 which plugs into your factory wiring harness. You will then need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 if you are going with a traditional style brake controller.
The option I recommend is using the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7L and using the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 which installs into your 7-Way connector and doesn't require you to run and wiring inside of your vehicle, and offers an easy to use mobile app to control the setting of the trailer brake controller.
You will also need a ball mount, hitch ball, and hitch pin and clip. I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 which includes two ball mounts with 3/4 inch rise/2 inch drop or 2 3/4 inch rise/4 inch drop, two hitch balls, two hitch pins and clips, and a carrying case. If your trailer does not have electric trailer brakes you can add the easiest option is to purchase a trailer that has them installed already. I included an article that goes over how to install electric trailer brakes.
