Attaching the Power Wire for a Trailer Wiring Harness on a 2013 Nissan Rogue
Question:
I have a 2013 Nissan Rogue. I have your wiring harness. The question that I have is that there is a 2 pin lead wire power available in the spare tire area. How can I connect this wiring harness lead wire to that 2 pin power wire?

On trailer wiring harness # 118480 for your 2013 Nissan Rogue, you will have to connect the power wire from the converter directly to the vehicle battery. No other 12 volt source should be used.
It is not recommended to attach the power wire from the converter to any other 12 volt power source other than directly to the
battery. The reasons for this are: connecting to a circuit like that 12VDC outlet defeats the purpose of isolating the trailer wiring from the vehicle wiring so short circuits are now a threat to the vehicle wiring; a power surge on the vehicle could result in permanent damage to the converter box since the 12VDC source you found has a fuse that is most likely rated higher; and finally, the converters are not tested this way, only when connected to the battery, and should there be a problem it will not be covered by the warranty.
Routing the power wire to the battery is not as much trouble as you might think. It just takes some time. I have included a link to an FAQ article I wrote with tips on routing the power wire that should help.
