Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2009 Nissan Rogue
Question:
hello! i have a 2009 Nissan Rogue. I was wondering what the benefit of this wiring harness is, compared to splicing in a regular flat 4 wire connector into the tail lights like you see on most other wiring installs? thanks!

Your Nissan Rogue doesn't have the correct brake light setup for you to be able to splice in a 4-way in the way you described. Trailer wiring requires the stoplights and blinkers to be on the same circuit whereas your vehicle has separate turn signals form the blinkers so a converter would be needed. That's reason number one.
Reason number two is that the taillight circuits of your vehicle don't have a high enough amperage rating to power your trailer's lights without overloading the circuits. So the # 118480 actually runs to the vehicle battery so that the power needed for the trailer taillights doesn't come from your vehicle lights.
