Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

It took me about two hours to install the trailer hitch by my self. A second person is really needed. The only problem I had is you have to start the driver side first or the bolt holes don't line up. It's a really tight fit against the cargo compartment.

Once you get it on it is a perfect

Overall it I give it 5 stars.

At this point it look and feel like a factory installed unit.

ordered this for my 2017 AWD Flex EcoBoost with dual exhaust, I went with the Drawtite brand due to having two other Drawtite hitches in the past... it shipped same day and arrived on time as indicated on my confirmation email.

the packaging surprised me as it was in a “generic”/universal type box, which I would assume fits a multitude of different model hitches (most bigger than this one) it did have a thin plastic cover over the receiver area to protect the powder coat, despite it being lose in the box in was in good shape.

I watched the video and figured that installing it myself shouldn’t be a problem... the installation took around a hour and went pretty much like the video, my 2017 has two exhaust hangers inboard of the rear lower control arms instead of one centered as in the video, but really not a big deal as far as the install.

with all four exhaust hangers in place and the hitch torqued to spec l lowered the Flex down and noticed that the exhaust tips were no longer centered in the valance, upon inspection the issue was clear... a reinforcement bar on the hitch was coming in contact with the hanger on the passenger side and would need to be “clearanced” to allow the exhaust tips to be centered while the exhaust is in a “relaxed position.

without any room to work on the hitch while it was installed I had to remove it and grind off the edge of the reinforcement bar to allow for proper fitment

So after installing, uninstalling, grinding and reinstalling MY total install time was around 3 hours, inspite of the extra work the receiver fits closely to the valance and is not obtrusive.

this hitch came in at about half the price as the factory one from my dealer and should be more than sufficient for my bike rack and 5x8 trailer

Bolted right in place. The only problem was getting the paint/undercoating out of the other holes on the Flex frame. That took longer than bolting the hitch on.

Hitch is still working fine after a year. We use it for or bike rack almost every weekend.

by:
2009 Ford Flex

Bolting on the hitch took about 15min and was easy to do with the bolts provided and after watching the quick video on installing it. Wiring it up on the other hand took a while. The instructions that came with the electrical was easy to follow and super helpful...finding a path for the wires underneath the car from the battery back to the hitch is what took the longest.

Problem is with etrailer not the actual product. It wad packaged carelessly and that caused damage in shipping. Not to mention I could've ordered the same product from [online] and had it in 2 days instead of the 8 days it took etrailer to ship. The product itself was fine, the 1 star review is for etrailer itself. Took over a week to receive my order from the time it was placed. Had I known I would be waiting that long I would've just ordered from [online]. Once I finally received my order my hitch was thrown into a box that was way too big for it along with the wiring harness I ordered smashed under the hitch inside the box. No protective packaging of any sort, just 2 items haphazardly thrown into a huge box to bounce around across the country. Wiring harness was still usable but the packaging and instructions were crushed and destroyed as well as my hitch arrived slightly bent and had several large chips in the powder coating. Needless to say I believe this will be my first and last order from etrailer

I was checking on the internet to get a new trailer hitch for my 2014 Lincoln MKT.
I got my part and it fits perfectly, I am way super satisfied and will definitely buy from etrailer again! The how-to videos are great. This made installation a little more comfortable. Especially when you do not perform this type of work every day. The parts were of high quality and are working as expected.

Thank you

The Draw-Time trailer hitch went on without a "hitch". The process of ordering the correct components (hitch, wiring harness and 4 pole plug mount) for my 2016 Ford Flex was nearly effortless with only one call to clear up one concern. etrailer's videos that were vehicle and product specific made for a great experience. Thanks

Great looking and fairly easy to install. I would recommend having a second person to help lift and hold it in place. It is quite a chore doing it by yourself. I used a couple of jackstands to help support the weight of it while installing, but another's help would have been great. Sal at etrailer was most helpful in taking my order and answering all of my questions. When it was all done, I was happy with the way it looked. I don't think it hangs too low, especially since it was a fraction of the cost as an OEM one from Ford.

Thank you for getting my items out to me so quickly. I've been having issues finding the right tow package for my vehicle. I had to send 2 back when I tried ordering from other places.(both auto part companies)Neither ask the right questions about my vehicle. It was nice to deal with such professionalism from the employees at etrailer.#1 They asked the right question about my vehicle to be sure it fit correctly & #2 They got my item to my door step fast. My only regret was I didn't deal with etrailer 1st and save myself a lot of time and headaches. Thanks Again...
Sincerely,

I have to say after reading some other reviews before I had received my trailer hitch. I felt I would either have an easy or difficult install. I had done the install by myself and it took less then an hour. Over all the products are great and it was a smart choice to buy from entrailer.

by:
2016 Ford Flex

Good product. Fits exactly as expected. Installation took about an hour as expected too. Only one issue which is why I gave it 4 stars. After it was installed, I tried to insert the pin and it wouldn't go through. After closer inspection, there was a metal burr restricting the pin from passing through, so I had to use a metal file to file down the burr to allow the pin to pass through properly. See attached photo. Other than that, no issues. Also, the instructional video was VERY helpful and made the installation quite easy to do.

Product was high quality well made easy to install with instructions. The wiring kit was Plug and Play.
It looks factory installed.

by:
2017 Ford Flex

The receiver was a little dinged up with spots of powder coating chipped off but... it’s a trailer hitch. The install was simple and as directed in the videos.

by:

Good, sturdy hitch. Fit perfectly with no problems. Easy to install, took about 30 min with no other help.
Only negative is that it really isn't hidden as the bars to the side hitch is visible from behind.
Received the hitch in 3 business days as promised.

by:
Ford Flex

I was afraid of doing this myself but after watching the video and taking a quick look at the pictures, I ordered the hitch. So easy to install! Looks amazing too. Can't wait to get outside and start using it.

by:

Perfect fit and as a master mechanic of 25 years the installation was easy, the only thing was I wish I had a drive on lift and a hydraulic jack. Doing it on the ground was no fun and it took about 2 hours but it’s in and everybody happy. Thanks

by:
2014 Ford Flex

Excellent fit. Installed myself in about 25min. Main use is for a bike rack.

by:
2013 Ford Flex

The deliver time was excellent. This hitch is a direct bolt on, but the right side was very tight once installed, causing a very tight space to re-hang the rubber mount for the right muffler. The wiring kit was a plug and play, however each side should have been four inches longer, as it was made, it was barely long enough. As for value, it was ok, after I ordered from etrailer.com, I found a direct fit hitch and wiring kit locally for less money.

by:
2010 Ford Flex

Very prompt delivery and a very sturdy product, the hitch receiver is very solid/heavy. Didn't take too long to install. My install was on a 2010 Ford Flex without twin exhausts. One note to mention is that there is no need to undo the rubber exhaust hanger as its main mounting bracket has to be removed as part of the hitch installation.

Hitch has worked as described. If I need any additional hitches, your company will be my first choice.

by:

Install went well enough, the reason for the low rating was for the fact the hitch after installation was not square to the vehicle.

by:

Came as described, purchased the wiring harness as well. Finished install in less than an hour.

by:
2009 Ford Flex

The hitch went on my 09 Flex without any problems. Very easy install, fast shipping, great value, and excellent customer service.

  • Difference Between Hidden Hitch 87571 and Draw-Tite # 75679
Part 87571 and # 75679 are the same hitch. Hidden Hitch was a brand owned by the same company that has since dissolved, so the hitch labeled with the Draw-Tite sticker and number is now the part number for both. The brand name was the only difference so now they just all have the Draw-Tite sticker so if you have found a Hidden Hitch it is just old stock. I've attached a video of the installation for you.

  • Why Would Trailer Hitch Install Hardware Seem Too Large to Fit Vehicle
The problem you are experiencing is pretty common for vehicles that have seen a couple winters. What happens is the weld nuts get a bit of corrosion in them and that prevents the bolts from being able to thread. This makes it seem like the nuts are too small. I checked your order notes and you're up north where the winters are pretty harsh too so that makes this even more likely. What you'll need to do it clean the weld nuts out so that you can thread the included bolts. I have included...

For your 2009 Ford Flex you will need to install a Class III hitch to carry the carrier and the scooter. For that you would need our Draw Tite hitch part # 75679 which has a 400 lb tongue weight capacity.
