Difference Between Curt 13088 Square and Curt 13156 Round Tube Trailer Hitches

Question:

Hi, I have a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder. I was wondering, between the following two hitch receivers, which one sticks out past the rear bumper the LEAST? Curt 13156 round tube vs Curt 13088 square tube The one I have on my Pathfinder currently unsure of brand sticks out a ridiculous amount past the rear bumper. I want a trailer hitch receiver as close to the rear bumper as possible. Id prefer one that actually tucked completely under the rear bumper like modern OEM hitch receivers, however, it doesnt look like any for the 1996-2004 Pathfinders are made that way. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

The two hitches you mentioned are very similar in size and installation. When comparing round and square hitches, round tube hitches are usually sleeker compared to square hitches. Any hitch for your Pathfinder will stick out past the bumper. I looked at our other hitch options like Draw-tite, and they stick out too. With these older Pathfinders, the extra bumper clearance is necessary to avoid obstruction.

With the options available, I would go with the Curt Round Tube # C13156 if your priority is a low-profile hitch. Both Curt hitches function and install the same way, but I think the round tube design is smoother and more visually appealing. I attached a picture with it installed so you can see exactly how it looks on a Pathfinder.
